I'm a new owner/member. Absolutely in love with the motorcar (even with the "break-in limits". Having a bit of trouble with brake squeal. Is this typical for new (metalic) pads and, if so, how long should I expect it to last? Is there a better way to have them seat properly? Please advise.

Mine have squealed since day 1. I like the squeal.

Ferari F40 brakes squeal.

I guess its a race car thing

I fixed my squeal sound with a loud exhaust and a new stereo.

Nope.

Fronts YES....... rears not even close, due to ABS and new rear calipers on '01

My source says they can get the rears for a 2001 (EBC Green)in 2 days, after I place the order....they said part # BT2103 are correct, can someone please verify that #, and if its correct let me know and I will order some if any of you want them.
Just trying to help out,
Cheers,

Scott, if you can get them, count me in. But I would be really surprised if your source has access to EBC pads that JonB and Wingkind can not get...

Please confirm.

Can some one from this board please confirm that Part # BT2103 is the correct part # for the rear pads on a 2001 (EBC green). My source says they are correct, and only take 2 days to order. My source is NOT a Viper place so I am not sure if they have the correct #, but they seemed pretty sure...
I agree with "doctor", if Jon B. or Wing King can't get them ..how could I??
Cheers,

Did you notice they only squeal when you're trying to be cool? Mine will stop squealing if I break harder for a short distance or less for a longer distance. I do the "less" bit since it's sort of an "I'm too fast to have to prove anything." The squeak gets less loud after a few thousand miles.

Sorry Scott, but your source is not correct. The correct EBC part number for the 2001 rear is DP21164, and there are none in the USA right now. They used to be produced in the past as an old Ford application for the TRW caliper, and we managed to scrounge only two leftover sets in this country a few months ago. It's possible the EBC dealer you're talking to might have an old set gathering dust on his shelf, but I doubt it, especially with that part number he's quoting you. The owner of EBC himself has promised us the first 100 sets within about 10 more days to our warehouse. Furthermore, these new 01 rears will be coming with a new Aramid fiber compound, even superior to the current Greenstuff material.

GreatBrakes.com is the exclusive EBC distributor for Viper pads in the USA, or you can get them through any of our many authorized dealers, which includes a large number of Dodge dealer parts departments. Space or time doesn't allow me to post that long list, and it would be inappropriate for me to mention some but not all. If you'll send me a private e-mail with your location, I'll steer you to the most convenient source for your own personal needs

The price for the 2001 Rears is $69, not $60. EBC keeps a very rigid watch on prices and does not approve of discounting their already low prices. Hope this clears it up for you.

The squeal usually goes away when the pads get metal to metal...then its a grinding noise

Seriously, many Vipers have brake squeal, its kinda the nature of the beast....I bought EBC (green I think) pads for mine, havent installed them yet, but heard good stuff about them.
Cheers,

If you have a 2001 Viper, don't hold your breathe on having the EBC Green pads for the rear...

For at least the past 6 months we have been told "any minute now" on availability... I am dying over here with these filthy, squeaking, stock rear pads!
