BTR \'s 3 - 2 Upshift Eliminator Shifter

<FONT face="Comic Sans MS">There was a post a few days back called:

What happens when u accidently down shift in a lower gear instead of ....

However it is now nowhere to be found. (Tony!?)

Regardless, in it Tom Welch mentioned a pistol grip shift that could help eliminate the dreaded 3 - 2 up shift. Well here are pictures of said item.

Feel free to elaborate Tom:

It's a bit different. But does it really help? That's what counts. I also don't like the long clutch throws in the Viper either....is there a way to shorten those too? I was in a F-355 Ferrari and the pedals are actually on the opposite side compared to the Viper. One thing I liked about the Ferrari was that the clutch throw was short and simple. Nice for fast shifting.

Re: BTR \'s 3 - 2 Upshift Eliminator Shifter

I wonder what happened to the orginal thread??

Anyways, folks were asking about how what happens when an accidental downshift occurs. Then the topic graduated to missing shifts. I proposed that the shifter was part of the problem. You just can't shift correctly holding a ball in your hand. The "Pistol Grip" shifter handle has been around Mopars for decades and is proven effective. Your hand and arm are now in a correct egronomical(sp) form instead of trying to cup your palm over a ball or even worse trying to grip the ball style shifter knob with your thumb and forefinger.

With the above shifter in my viper i have NEVER MISSED A SHIFT. It feels correct. Now, when I drive others vipes I don't feel as secure when holding the ball type knobs that they have.

I don't mass produce these because of the high cost to CNC mill them(note the egronomic shape that has a spot for all fingers and your palm when holding the shifter!)

If anyone is intrested in one they are $ 199.00. If you want the viper logo engraved it is extra. They are made from Billet T-5056 aluminum, then polished.

Thanks,

Tom

PartsRack recommends the clutch link kit from Roe Racing.....
About $25. Easy to install, and it works.

We even bought a few and stock em for our customers. Say the word, Adam, and its on the way.......
