I am wondering if anyone can share the cam specs for the older '97 style 'lumpy' cams?

'01 specs are
Intake 297 degrees, .542" lift
Exhaust 305 degrees, .542" lift
overlap 60 degrees.

Second question is whether anyone has ever run the older cam in a cream puff and gotten any dyno numbers.

Keep in mind, the numbers you have are the ADVERTISED numbers which you should ignore. There is no real correlation between advertised and @.050. Every cam is normally ground using the ' @.050" '.

If you grind a cam coapred to the actual numbers, you will have problems.

Good Luck.

In answer to your second question about power:
My 2001 ACR stock: 398 rwhp 442 rwtq
Add APEX LETHAL 650: 576 rwhp, 603 rwtq (cam, heads, headers/exhaust, rockers, TBs, and airbox are the main power mods...and it passes smog!)

You will see the best results if you match your cam with your heads. You will probably require computer tuning as well.

Hope this helps!

If you asking should you put the older cam in your car for more power I think most would say no, don't do it. Mainly because you will gain none/very little power with it. If you are going to change the cam for more power there are better choices like Crowler and others. The only difference between the older lumpy cam and the newer ones is the overlap, old one = 66 new ones = 60 deg. Check out this link posted a while ago that listed many of the cam specs over the years.

Thanks MES, that link was perfect. Somehow I missed it when I did a search.

My primary reason for asking the question is that I have started a viper section on my website including accumulating as many specs as possible on my '01. The link can be found here: http://www.reefcorner.com/ViperSpecs.htm
The site is mainly a reef aquarium site, my other expensive hobby, hence the name.

Anyway, I thought it might be interesting to include some of the more notable year differences as well, hence the reason for my question. I am not thinking about putting in an older cam, just idle curiosity if anyone has actually tried it and what the results were.

Marv S., I also recently heard something about the lifters being different as well. Anyone know if there are any performance gains to be had here?

LTHL VPR, I'm with you, unfortunately Dodge only seems to publish the gross lift numbers and not at .050".

Lethal: 176hp and 160trq from cam, heads and headers and it passes smog? (I doubt in California). This is an EXTREMELY STOUT gain from those mods!

Sure is, make you wonder there Dodge had their thumbs when they were designing the engine

APEX Motorsports is located in CA. We make sure all of our packages will pass the strict CA emission sniffers including our LETHAL 650 (stock bottom end)! Keep in mind that the right combination of parts makes a BIG Difference! With our custom ground cam we make a great flat torque curve (over 500 rwtq from about 3000 rpms to 5800 rpms with a peak around 4300 rpms, that's a better average than some stroker kits we have seen). It works great in combination with our heads. We look forward to offering a stroker kit soon which should boost the numbers significantly but will also require a built up bottom end and revised fuel system to accomodate, dare I say, potentially 750 'naturally aspirated' horsepower.... Stay tuned.....

The car idles great; especially after we custom tuned the computer. The cam is not as aggressive as one might think, it just uses the right combination of parts.

Many of the Nor Cal members have had a chance to see and hear the car; lots of thumbs up.

I was debating on the 2003, and have decided to hold off. There is just something special and timeless about the GenIs and GENIIs. I think the GENIIIs look nice, but miss that something special and unique flare.

Don't worry, we will be modifying the GENIIIs as well. Hoping to get an early one in the shop to do our "LETHAL 650" package on it. With the additional cubic inches, it may need to be called a LETHAL 700 for GENIIIs.

I'll keep you posted.
