Can we change the black part around the exhaust exit?

Hi everyone, since last week I was looking for an SRT-10. You gave me a lot of information to help my decision with everything on your forum (took me 2 days to read most of it)

I finally bought my first Viper and it’s an awesome car (Brand new 2003).

#1 Can someone help me, my car is silver and around the exhaust exit it’s like a black plate, like most of the SRT. My dealer can’t tell me the official reason of it (maybe not to show on the fumes on the paint from the exhaust or because of the heat?). I would really prefer all the bottom of the car to be color match and I saw some silver or red ones on the net and also in magazine that were color match. Hope I describe it correctly. I have pictures but if I understand the FAQ I need a server to post it (and I don’t). On this forum YellowSnake posted a picture (of a SILVER SRT)in Media, image gallery, 2003 SRT page 18 and it’s exactly the result I want (is it paint or a new part?).

#2 Also, am I pressing to ******* the gas or maybe due to the cold temperature (tire and pavement) because sometimes I feel the rear wheels like if the were jumping or knocking (and the stick shift shaking) on hard acceleration after I have released the clutch completely. I am very new with a muscle car and want to know if it’s the car or me that need to be fixed (lol)

-All production SRT-10's I have ever seen are black in that area. It is indeed to keep the paint from discoloring. The peice is not removavle, it is part of the side sill- just not painted.

-you are referring to wheel-hop. Cold pavement can make it worse. It will happen occasionally. If it does, DO NOT ride it out- thats how you break things. Let off the gas, and then get back on it. If it happens constantly, you may want to get your rear suspension checked for bad bushings, joints, and shocks.

Thank you very much for your quick answer. After reading most of the forum I realized that you are one of the references for lots of details.

Your stainless screw for the dash is a good idea (will look like my H2). Can I fax you my credit card number for the order? Wish to also order a MAGNETIC Drain Plugs for SRT-10 Vipers

For the black color I understand that the few one on the net were pre-production car and no after market kit can give me the look I wish! (Hope something will be crate to color match-it)

Concerning the wheel-hop I will have to wait next spring to get hot temperature and I will follow your advice.

I love this forum, in few hours I got more info than in a week with the DC peoples here in Montreal.

You can paint that area (around the exhaust tip) if you would like. I have touched mine up due to an exhaust install problem.

I'm suffering from the same described wheel hop, shifter shake and yes I have to let off the gas to stop it. Happens in second gear also.
Currently my car is in the shop and they suspect a loose / broken motor mount or transmission mount. Should have it back Tuesday and they are confident it will be fixed.
They installed my 3.55's and the first thing they checked was all the rear end bushings and connections. All tight, not squeezed or out of place. I'll keep you posted as I'm sure there are others curious what is causing this.

You painted your exhaust exit, the part that was originally black. Did the paint support perfectly the heat, which color did you put it.

My dealer is afraid that it will make bubbles, how much mileage and months since you had it painted.

Yes, I painted it black. The paint has been on about 3 months and 5000 miles now in southern California. Plenty hot here. No problems.
