This week I was awarded the closed bid that was on this 97 RT 10
that has been held as a crown asset here in Canada. My guess is that it was seized from one of the local M/C clubs out in eastern Canada. The car was advertised as having 9654 kilometers, mint shape with the hard top but no soft-top. By the time all of this was gong to be over and done with in getting the car back to Alberta with the trucking, taxes paid, provincial inspections etc I was going to have a next to new RT10 at just under $75,000 cdn or $50,000 U.S.
Now I have found out that the car in reality has over 26,000 kilometers (speedo rolled back?) from the warranty service records and who knows what else. I have approached the Crown
with my concerns on the legal, moral and ethical issues with regards to this and have been granted the option to back out with a full refund of my deposit.
It sounds like it may now be presented to the 2nd highest bidder to see if he will except. If not it may come up for bid again but with the altered speedo and the higher mileage and an unknown history it may now only be worth some where near the $50,000 cdn.
But then again maybe this may even be to high as a person trying to sell it in the future would definitely suffer a small financial set back with the tampered speedo.
Another good lesson of buyer beware.
