Okay...might not be a big deal. But for the first time today the car almost died. I was idleing through the neigborhood in second and the car went over a speed **** and the car almost died after I got over. I though...huh, that never happend before. Then 20 minutes later I was coming back and it did the same thing. I took it out of gear then it hesitated for a couple of seconds and then the RPM's leveled out. Might not be anything, but it just never hapened to me before this time.

I'm doing a forum search for this same issue... you just described exactly what my GTS was doing earlier.... I had to gradually give it gas to keep it from dying... and at best it would pur at just below 500RPM.... very weak idle... I'm sure this is common... so I'm trying to see what I can find...

alrighty, I had the TB's machined not too long ago.... and this has only been an issue since I've had it done.... car has a very very weak idle.... so my very inexperienced hypothosis is "out of sync TB's", will someone with more $.02 than me voice an opinion :) thanks guys.... GotOne, maybe we have the same issue...

My 97 GTS does this on a cold start. It goes away for good once I go hard in first gear. Then it comes back again when I turn her off for 10 minutes or more and go again.

If your battery is more than 2 years old, replace it. Crank position sensor requires a full battery and will exhibit lack-of-idle as a symptom...

good luck!

I often though about disconnecting the battery for a few minutes to see if that would cure the problem. What is the best way to go about that? Do I have to take the rear tire off?

You can do it in the engine compartment right by the PCM in front of the driver's footwell. Check your manual for the instructions on how to jump start and it will show you the remote battery terminal location in the engine compartment. That said, when I want to reset my computer, I just pull the three big plugs off the side of the PCM and leave them disconnected for awhile. I believe this is advised against in the service manual, but I have never had a problem.

I had a very low idle too after I had some maintenance done to the car.. I took it back to the dealer and they calibrated the PCM with their computer thingy (can't remember what it's called!). Since then the idle has been perfect at about 700RPM.

So I tried this, it did improve the idle... but yet, still a tad weaker than I recall it use to be... could just be me.... now I'm gonna see if it bugs me enough to take it down to Valaya Racing for a look.... or if I can handle it.... *At night.... does anybody else's dash lights and head lights kinda flicker very lightly when the car is sitting there at idle?

700RPM...is that where our's are supposed to idle? IT seems like I am under 500.

okay, just got back from a little drive. Nothing, it was perfect. Hopefully it was the first and last time it will happen.
