Grayman, This weekend, I performed this "operation" on my 96 GTS. I purchased 4 of the 2 1/2 inch "borla" clamps from Sean Roe and installed approx. 24 inches of straight pipe in place of the stock cats. One end of the pipe should be swelled to fit over the forward head pipe, the other end fits inside of the stock resonator. I reused the old clamps on the resonator and used 2 of the borla clamps on each side of the forward pipe. I cut the cats off with a saws-all just in front of the forward weld. I am pleased with the results. I noticed a definite improvement in SOTP feel, it is easier to break the tires loose in first or second gear. The sound is also much more fitting to the car without being too harsh. Yes there is more of an exhaust smell from outside the car at idle, but not much different from any of the older performance cars I have owned. A definite great "bang for the buck" mod.
