Just had muffler shop cut off cats...about an inch in front and just before muffler on cat back. Welded in straight pipe. While on lift put on rear O2 sims from Apex. No check engine light, no surging, quite a bit louder but not too bad. No funny smell yet. I would recommend to anyone who wants their Viper to sound like it was meant to.

You mean the resonator in the side sill don't you? You still have the muffler at the rear of the car? If that's the case, I would like to hear it. Most people remove the rear muffler first. I never heard one that removed the cats first. Bet it sounds good.
