Central and N. Florida Viper club rocks \" World Class Style\"

"The Viper Club-Central and North Florida has rented Gainesville International Raceway exclusively for it's members from 8AM to 4 PM on Saturday Oct.11 . This is a world class dragstrip and racing facility".

Can you say how many runs we can get in 8 hours.

I would personal like to thank our club president Gary and Libby Lashinsky for the rental of the home of Gator Nationals a "World Class Dragstrip" featured on ESPN.

See " Viper Event and Gathers " for more information.

Sounds great! But, what about the NHRA 12 second rule? And the SRT owners - what will they do???

Re: Central and N. Florida Viper club rocks

I have raced at Gainesville Raceway for over 20 years. It is a state of the art facility with knowledgable staff.

The problem lies in the fact that the facility is NHRA owned and operated...the personnel are trained and paid by the NHRA and are very educated with regards to technical aspects and regulations.

I know all of the track personnel by first name, but still get grief about 9 second requirements for my Viper that I'm just not willing to install. Required items like a parachute, a full roll cage through the front firewall and drivers side window net, aftermarket seats, neck restraint....and much more ********* race stuff that dissapates the streetability of my Viper.

This is not to take anything away from the kindness and vigor of the folks at the raceway as they are always willing to help make events fun and safe. Just be prepared to be asked to slow down or go home if you have a real fast Viper or are really lacking on basic safety equipment.

Our regional event was held at Gainesville about a year ago, and no Vipers made 9 second pass....and tech inspection was light. There was an incident on the road course that will probably lead to increased scrutiny of technical race worthiness this year. Just my opinion.

Of course, we will be there with about 12 stages of spray and a couple of 60lb bottles in a small trailer hooked onto the back of my car. See you there!

From what I understand, If you rent that facility for an individual club event, the tech staff are a little more lenient when it comes down to mandatory safety equipment. I've heard this from a couple people involved in other sports car clubs and don't know it to be factual information.
