Changing lock for center console storage compartment

Has anyone ever changed the lock for the center storage compartment? On occasion, I will be driving down the highway, but with console will be locked, and I find it difficult to remove the ignition key, unlock the console, and reignite the car while driving. Therefore, I was wondering if anyone had changed it to another lock so you could carry a separate key for the console and avoid those problems. Alternatively, I was thinking about just getting another ignition key to carry with me... (prefer to leave my current spare set somewhere safe at home).
