I am in the middle of changing the motor mounts on my 04. Driver's side was easy but I can not get the passenger side out past the exhaust. I have jacked up the front of the motor about 3 inches, bent the heat shields and no matter how I rotate the mount it does not want to come out. I even tried unbolting the old mount from the cast aluminum bracket but it was too tight with the bracket floating loose. Woodhouse says that I do not have to remove the exhaust manifold but has anyone got any suggestions for me. I even thought about leaving that old mount in and changing the driver's side and the transmission mount but I do not want to it half way and I am too stubborn to give up.

Those suckers are like a puzzle. Lay it down for a while and grab a brew. Go back in an hour and just try moving it forward and backward. Even try taking it out from the top.

Ok here is what I did..
Take off the airbox.
Take off the strut brace
now you can jack up the motor alot more, Keep a eye on the back of the motor by the hood. Dont crush anything
Pull the mount out the top on the passenger side.
BAM!

Hope that helps

RobZilla is right on. I changed mine and had the same level of frustration you are experiencing - the passenger side is a real ******! I took the mount apart which did help and came out the front/top while wiggling the motor back and forth to get additional clearance. You will have the same "fun" putting it back in - again easier if left in two pieces.

Did you file down the tab on the new mount?

Good luck!

Because they wear out?:confused:

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Yea but on a 5 year old car? Are they made of playdo?
I've changed them on many 60's-70's Ford cars and trucks because there broke or rotted out, but never on a newer car. But this is my first Chysler product, so might be doing it soon i guess.:dunno:

With the heat generated, and the torque of these engines, the rubber does breaks down fast. A lot of people like to switch them out with Polymounts too, for a more positive shift feel. Many different reasons. Mark J at Woodhouse sells a great set too :2tu:

Do a search on motor mounts, you'd be suprised @ some of the pics with the mileage on the cars. These things take some abuse. Woodhouse mounts are what you want

I WON the mounts did not beat me. All three are in. I had to disassemble the right hand mount, used a long bar and extension from the top side and then everything came out with ease. I had to assemble the mount in the car.

Thank you all for the encouragement and helpful advise.
