I have a s/c'd '05 SRT. I've been contemplating the idea of changing the rear end to 3.33 or 3.55 from the stock 3.07. I would like feedback from other s/c'd owners that have done this. Would you recommend doing this? What are the pros and cons? Would you recommend the 3.33 or 3.55?

Thanks...

If you're running stock boost 3.55 gears are perfect 1/4 mile gears for your combo and put you near readline in 4th when running through the traps, while also allowing the use of 6th gear on the street. Since you have forged internals, you'll probably end up increasing boost in which case you'd probably want 3.33s since 3.55 will limit top speed in 4th to about 135-136, and you would likely exceed that with more boost. . Do youself a favor and also upgrade to a Quaife at the same time. You can purchase an entire replacement rear end completely set up with new gears, quaife, bearings, etc, swap it in, and then return yours as a core. I unfortunately took a more expensive route and initially went with the 3.55 gear upgrade with the Paxton, my car is presently is back at Woodhouse for a Quaife upgrade along with a few other times. Looking at your other thread, the addition of PS2s and a DLM intercooler and larger pump will make a world of difference in that Texas heat. . Good luck.....

I have the 3:55's with the Paxton and I think they're the perfect gear ratio! High end of 4th gear in the traps....and yet can use 6th gear for feeway driving and get 23+ mpg at 80 mph! Still haven't had the DLM intercooler upgrade, but that's next. Already have the PS2's and that made an extreme difference with the Sidewinder wheels from the Copperhead cars........my car is an 05 Comm. Ed. So my choice would defintely be the 3:55's! Another reason, is that I'm not going to the drag strip with anything else to prove.....the car runs in the high 10.3's with good track conditions and DR's........is a blast to drive..... and all that I ever dreamed of having in a Viper!

Im running a Paxton with 3:33's, my buddy is running paxton with 3:55's.
I think the 3:33 is perfect choice for a 600-700 rwhp car. While my buddy likes the 3:55 for showing off and the feel of brutal accelleration, it make 1 and 2nd gear useless.

Thanks for all the input guys. I will go with the Quaife and 3.33's when I get ready to throw some more money at it. I want rims too, so I need to decide which comes first. Thanks again and take care ya'll...

3.33 is probably more appropriate for a paxton car...especially if you are going to bump up the power later.

some food for thought...take two equally powered paxton cars put 3.33 in one and 3.55 in the other, set them up on a 3rd gear run....the 3.55 car will walk away from the 3.33 car.

With ps2's you can put the power down in first and second with either gear. with p-zeros 1st gear and sometimes second goes up in smoke.

I've felt both gears and for my usage I like the 3.55 better.

I'm very happy with my 3.55's and Paxton. Perfect for highway runs and the dragstrip.

Talk to JonB @ PartsRack. He can have Unitrax drop ship you an entire rear with either gears and an '08 Posi for half the price of a quaife. You'll have to ship yours back as a core exchange. If you're not running slicks, may be more then enough for what you're looking for.

Thanks Billy: Emphasizing, You received our 2008 # 0001...... I have a few more, brand new 2008 diffs with the much improved GKN-Visko-Lok. Your choice of ratios: 307; 333; 355 or even 3:73 or 4:11 (if you are suicidal!) We send you a bolt-in SRT diffrential package and you return your diff in trade.

Note to 2008 Viper owners: Changing Ring/Pinion in a 2008 has proven to be very challenging for some installers who had ZERO problem with 92-06....if you plan to swap gears on a 2008, KNOW YOUR INSTALLER has done them on a 2008. (Or ask for PartsRack-Unitrax THANKS)

No problem Jon, love it and no gear noise to boot!
