I was driving down Woodward Ave tonight (eat your heart out

) exceeding the limit slightly in 4th gear @ 3000 RPM (you can do the math).

I dropped to 3rd and applied to gas to get the revs up as I let off the clutch (just like I've done a million times on a bunch of cars -- which doesn't necssarily mean I do it the right way) and I heard a *LOUD* solid clunk coming from the rear.

Freaked out I slowed down. Then to see if maybe I exceeded the revs or something I kept it in third and went up to the same speed as when the clunk happened, but I was only at 4000 RPM, so that wasn't the problem.

Any ideas?

Mine actually did the same thing the other night except I was going down to second. I was at about 4000 rpms also. I too wish I knew what it was.

Mine did that also, people on this board said it was normal, something about lash and stuff. Well it got real bad on the track and I took it to Dan Cragin, turns out the rear end mount had come loose from the top of the rear into the frame.

My 93 used to do the sane thing. If you can get it on a lift start at the bell housing and work your way back tightening everything. I found 2 loose bellhousing bolts a loose tranny crossmember loose traction bar? or whatever its called. Touched every bolt and no more clunk.
