Clutch Noise

Lately I've noted a metallic (metal on metal) noise when I fully depress the clutch. This only occurs with some degree of lateral pressure towards towards the door and appears to be coming from the area above the pedals where the brake and clutch share a common bracket. I envision this as some sort of worn spacer which allows contact with certain directional forces.

The area is too small for me to visually examine.

If I'm careful and make sure I apply straight pressure without any lateral component to the force, there's no noise.

The clutch itself is working fine.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and is there a quick fix?

Thanks.....

I have a '99 and it clunks when shifting into third right after letting out on the clutch pedal. Linkage? Same thing as your's? Or is this just normal clutch/linkage noise?

Since my original post, I went to visit my friendly Viper tech (who is considerably smaller than me)with my problem. After some searching, he discovered that there is indeed a worn sleeve (presumably neoprene) in the mechanism which maintains an interval between the metallic parts in the bracket.

A replacement kit will cost $4.00. That's the good news.......

The bad news........Labor to install the part: $181.00
