Clutch time.... any pointers???

Ok its clutch time and I have the new clutch in hand... going to
be doing this one myself... any pointers from the experts here as
I have never done one on a Viper before...I have the service manual
but not too much detail there..
I have done cluthes on other cars so I kinda know what I'm getting into here but I don't want to have to learn the hard way if there are some good pointers I need to know about. The new clutch is a stock unit.

Here is my approach... remove drive shaft shield, remove drive shaft at the transmission, remove transmission from engine... slide
transmission back for clearance, remove pressure plate and clutch,
remove throwout bearing, replace throwout bearing, replace clutch and pressure plate with alignment tool in place. remove slave bearing from transmission, replace slave bearing from transmission, install transmission to engine, install drive shaft,
install drive shaft shield...

Almost forgot... what is the procedure for removing the shifter??

Do I have it all there ???

I'm not sure how much work area you'll have just by sliding it back. You may have to drop the whole tranny to get some good clearance in there. The throw out bearing is actually part of an assembly that bolts into the tranny.

To remover shifter you need little hands and short wrench I believe 17 mm you will see the nut and will also have to hold the shaft from turning. Or you could go inside car and take shift knob off and pull it threw. The job is very easy and should take no more than 4 hours and that would be alot my first time on the viper took me 4 hours and my second time only because I knew what tolls were needed took leass than 2 1/2 hours. For the shifter, you're easier leaving it bolted on until you drop the tranny down a few inches and then taking the bolts out then.

Remove shift knob (2 wrenches required - not sure of size). Remove the radio trim piece. Remove driveline tunnel cover (2 long screws in back), pull it up and off the shifter and handbrake.

Now, drop the tranny, remove the 4 bolts around the shifter housing, and remove the shifter. You can do it from above, but you need to be a contortionist to get the right 2 bolts (especially the back one) - better to do it from below.

I know this is a relatively old thread but just for reference:

On my car (a '94 RT/10) you must unbolt the transmission from the bell housing BEFORE removing the transmission from the vehicle. The transmission simply won't come out with the bell housing still attached. Maybe I'll save someone a few hours worth of swearing. The manual makes it sound very simple and they leave this step out. According to the manual you simply unbolt the transmission from the engine and lower it out. Yeah, right.
