No, no, no. There are people on this site who actually believe that the Germans will listen. ( I, as most of you know, am NOT one of them ) All that matters to many is the Viper is exclusive, which it is. The fact that the new Z06 now equals or exceeds the Viper in performance is of no consequence to them. After all, it's only a Chevy.
All you have to do to see where this company is headed is how the Germans rejected the original '99 concept Charger and put out the agressively ugly model currently in it's place.
Like I have stated before and I will repeat, with the exception of the Lambo Contach, nearly any car that is a timeless design will have flowing curves in the body. ( hence the comparision to women )
This company needs a major overhaul and that's not going to happen. This wasn't a merger of equals but a takeover. And they are NEVER going to produce a car that will outshine the Mother Company. Not going to happen -- better yet, prove me wrong Dieter. Prove me wrong.

Some of you guys were around pre-SRT. The biggest whining was over...

1. A true convertable
2. A cupholder
3. A better stereo
4. Better brakes :2tu:
5. More power :2tu:

Which part didn't DC deliver? I can tell you which I could have done without.

:/ I don't think it was necessary to put down Sween's level of experience. He is one of the most "enthusiastic" people on this site, and seems to really appreciate the viper for what it is. That is exactly why DC needs to pay attention to its younger members. They are the future of the Viper if there is one. They are the kids that will have that poster hanging on their bedroom wall. They are the buzz of the next generation. They are the people in their "85 blazer" that hangs out at the local corners on a friday night (joy and telegraph around here) just waiting for the z06/viper challenges, etc. If more of the gen2/3 owners were as excited about whats next as sween is...I don't view that as a bad thing. Why should DC support a cynical bunch of elitists? (not saying that is everyone on the forums). This car is about passion and if you cannot appreciate that passion in all of the "enthusiats" why even drive a viper or be a part of the community?

Listen, they're just like most of the people around here, they arent going to listen to him nor I because we dont own a Viper. Its just the way it goes. I will admit, DC did listen and made a coupe, but it wasnt the coupe everyone hoped for.

Austin, while that may be true that it is not the coupe everyone wanted, I think its at least decent that they did listen to owners and enthusiasts comments at VOI8. The pronounced the ass-end a bit more, and lengthened the rear window glass. Subtle changes like that were for the people. I dont blame them for not making drastic changes to the coupe since VOI 8, but I like what I saw then, and its much better now thanks to "the people."

Look either way, DC will step up or they won't. If they don't, well life is tough, you grab a helmet and prepare for the next day. The Viper is a special car afforded by few, but admired by many. If it goes away, then a new amazing car will eventually take its place (may be a Dodge, chevy, ford, or import). Enjoy what you have now, while you have it. DC listens and though they may have political pressures to produce (benz) or not produce ( 2900 pound viper) it will play out when it does.

If I don't see a new viper, I wll probably eventually get a Gen3 and mod it to my liking, or maybe see what the next great thing is. That is the great part about being a consumer...choice!

In 1-2 years I'll be ready to add another exotic to the collection... IF DC gets off their @$$, I'll get a Viper. If not, then the GR-1 is looking mighty good.

And just to get a little back on track, I would say that (gasp!) Chuck has it more right than anybody here. When we listed what we wanted in the Gen III we generally got it. Mind you, the styling was not what we had in mind, but everything else was pretty much as we hoped for at the time. We were even solicited for our direct feedback on the Coupe at VOI 8 and Dodge made several changes based on that input. In case you didn't know it - Viper owners saw the Viper Coupe before ANYBODY else, including the press. Complain about not being heard all you want - and then compare it to any other car in the world. The Vette guys would KILL to have the kind of relationship we have with Dodge.

I had an excellent couple of days in Detroit this past week. Spent four hours at CAAP and two hours at Roush (where they build the Comp Coupe). Didn't meet with anybody in marketing - I met with the guys (and gals) that actually build the Viper. Every single thing I saw and heard tells me that more is on the way. A lot more.

Mind you, they can't say anything and I suspect their penalty for doing so is a lot more life-impacting than we care to think about. But they didn't need to say anything to see signs all around. We pressed them a few times and got stonewalled. But car guys are sometimes a lot easier to read than somebody from marketing. And what I read doesn't have me worried about any Chevy - Blue Devil or not.

They also have another MAJOR reason why they won't announce something soon: Do you honestly think people will line up to buy the new Coupe if they confirm that there is a 675 HP car that will be out in a few years? It was pointed out in Detroit that the 2004 model year SRT convertible sales were not up to expectations and that a large part of that was due to DC unveiling the prototype Coupe over a year ago at VOI 8 in Dallas. There were a LOT of people that were going to buy an SRT convertible in late 2004 that decided to wait for the coupe instead, which had been projected for a January release (over 800 people tried to buy one of the 200 First Editions alone). With the Coupe just starting production it would be incredibly foolish to announce an all-new Viper - no matter when it could happen.

And one other thing: I watched as the new Coupe was built and with many more moving around the plant in every color. I was honestly shocked at how great it looks in person. The blue/white combo is stunning, but that car in black is just plain bad-ass. I didn't have much of an interest in the Coupe before last week, and now I am trying to figure out how to get one in my garage. This is one incredible car bone stock, and with a little help from Paxton will dominate in every single category. And who knows - this could be one pretty darn limited production vehicle when all is said and done... :2tu:

What is the Gr-1? Is that the new Shelby concept that is going to replace the Ford GT? If so, I think that car is absolutely stunning. Supposedly 600hp and under 100k because many parts are from the ford GT. I would have a hard time deciding between that and a new Viper. THat car is perfectly sculpted.

Bill P just made a great post about his experience tracking a SRT Coupe. He said it was superior to the GTS in many ways. He did mention he still loves his GTS. DC is so far delivering on performance regardless of controversial styling. It probably will be a while before I see a Coupe in person but from pictures it is much improved over the SRT 10.
I am willing to give DC some slack till the GEN IV or next big change comes. More horsepower is almost certain and the styling could be a homerun too.
