Hello All,
I am posting this just to gauge interest in a system like this. Replying to this is by no means a commitment, but I want to know who WOULD purchase a system like I will describe below, if they had sufficient time and/or money to prepare for its availability.
What is a Dry Sump:
In a nutshell, a Dry Sump is the Be-All, End-All of oiling systems. Oil Starvation is a thing of the past, totally. A Dry Sump consists of oil lines, a new oil pan, a new pump, and a big reservior. The Oil pump is actually 6 oil pumps in one unit- 5 for "oil scavenging," and 1 as the "pressure pump." The scavenging pumps **** all of the oil out of the engine and put it into a reservior. Due to the reserviors shape, it can not loose its "feeding ability" to the pressure pump- the main cause of starvation. The pressure pump is what lubricates the engine. These systems hold upwards of 20 quarts of oil, and can feed an engine in virtually any condition short of full-out upside-down. As a person who is dumping massive amounts of money into my engine this winter as many as you already have already done or plan to do, it is certainly worth its large entry cost for a bulletproof system. There is a reason these systems are used on virtually every professionally built race car on the face of the planet. As an added bonus, Dry Sumps produce a vacuum inside of the engine, which will increase the HP of virtually any engine it is bolted onto. Whether you plan to drive on the track where a system like this is a no brainer, or if you drive ******* the street... or even want some serious peice of mind, these systems are it. Hearing about Comp Coupe oil pan equipped SRT's and CC's blowing enignes on the track is what made me seriously look into this modification.
Information:
I am looking to work with a Dry Sump designer in an effort to produce a Dry Sump System for the Dodge Viper Gen-3 engine. There ARE indeed systems currently on the market in the $5500.00 range. However, the problem as I have discovered is that the A/C system must be removed in order to use these on a gen-3. From my perspective as well as my Customers, this is NOT acceptable. On a Comp Coupe it is one thing, but for a track car also driven on the street, it means a worlds of difference. I plan to produce a kit that is fully integrated into the Gen-3 cars, much moreso than what is currently available. I am looking at way to keep the A/C intact, as well as simplify the system, such as designing a Dry Sump tank that can be mounted towards the front of the car, or at a minimum, not interfere with trunk space. Also, I am exploring ways of implementing the OEM filter location, as not to have "dead" parts hanging off of the engine not used. Any of you who know me well, know that I frown HEAVILY on anything that does not LOOK like it could be factory.
Pricing and availability:
As stated above, current Dry Sump systems WITHOUT the tanks retail for about 5500, plus the additional cost of oil lines and sump tanks (+1000). My target is to produce a system that has the qualities and changes listed above, INCLUDING a tank and a Core or Modified timing cover if neccessary for the SAME price range of 6500-7000 maximum, COMPLETE, ready to install. No ********.
If I can come up with a design that works as I intend, I would require a 25% downpayment, with the balance due at completion, right before shipment. Time period goal is early Spring, Feb-April timeframe.
Please let me know if there is any interest, or POSITIVE comments. Do not flood this thread with BS I do not want to hear about. If you think it is to expensive, then it is not for you- I do not need to know that, just dont post. These parts are VERY expensive and time consuming to make, and I will not be making much of anything on these initial kits, IF I can even make something work...I am just looking to cut down the costs of manufacture, so such a kit can even be brought to market.
