I need a daily driver after the summer months end, was thinking of one of the following...

92 vette
87 Buick GN
96 Impy SS
96 TA WS6

Any suggestions?

I bought a 95 Z28 6 speed hardtop new and used it as a daily driver for several years before it evolved into a track car. I thought it worked great. It was fast enough, comfortable, sounded great, was quite reliable, and cheap enough I never worried about it.

Now, I run the h*ll out of it on the race track and it keeps coming back for more. Our 99 Viper is certainly faster, but considering cost, the Z28 is a very satisfying car.

Max, I puke when I read/hear the words "daily driver." Oh well. If you're not going to use your Viper as a d**** d***** then get a pickup truck so you have something to tow your Viper to the track.

I drive my viper every day chuck, but if it's going to be snowing, I don't think chains will fit on 335 series tires

I had a 95 Z28 6 speed and I would not recommend that car for snow days. Mine had no traction control, perhaps a newer one would. Without TC the wide tires and lots of power make it a poor choice for even a little snow. Other than snow, It's a great car for the money. I would guess a street stock one would run mid 13s and get you over 20 mpg. It's not a good car in the snow.

I have a 96 Vette automatic as one of my extra cars now. It has traction control and that makes it a little better in the snow. The late C4 Vettes are hard to pass up as an extra car. Lots of power, reliable, cheap enough to not worry about, good mpg. I don't know why every Viper owner wouldn't have one as an extra car.

How much snow do you have down there?

Not tons, but i'm more worried about the rainy/cold crap we get LOTS of... RT's are great, but not exactly ones that seporate the drivers from the elements

Also, when it does get icy, they put SAND on the roads instead of salt. Yeah, SAND... go figure. All it does it make traction a nightmare where it builds up (how I wrecked my TA) and it scratches the crap out of paint on the lower levels of the car. Yick.

I loved my GN, but they are pretty dated now... for going fast cheap, it was awesome. But for creature comforts... i'd say nadda.

I'm leaning towards the impy, big enough to haul around stuff if needed and still has a v8 under the hood (granted smaller version of the LT1).

D*mn, I keep forgetting about that snow thing. Must be this oppressive humidity I've been in for so long. I still say get some kind of tow vehicle like a truck, or dare I say...an SUV, ugh.

I've got a couple, 2001 C5 convertable, 97 F150, and my favorite, a 92 Lebaron convertable.

I will say that the C5 looks "scared" sitting next to the Viper in the garage.

If you do not have a 4x4, you should.

4x4 anything would be my suggestion--especially in snowy climes.

I discovered the wonder of 4x4's a few years ago, and now all my cars are 4x4 except the viper.

I'm probably making a big mistake telling this but my wife has a Pontiac Aztec. It has 4wd and IRS, a tent, a cooler. It is a very nice vehicle. The problem is....Well, you all know how nice the Viper looks? Well, the Aztec is, well, different.

Yup, the Z28 is lousy in snow, so we also have an old AWD Subaru Legacy Wagon, although I just could not see driving it exclusively for many months on end.

How about an Audi S4? My brother had one, and I liked it quite a bit.

Coming from northeast ohio Id say get an SUV. I got a 2000 toyota landcruiser and i gotta say, this thing will go through ANYTHING. I take it hunting, off road, anywhere. not to mention the creature comforts, smooth ride and the ease at which you can go 100-110 on highway. cant even feel a speedbump, a true tank. lotta space too. i can put a weeks worth of gear, the wife, and both my dogs in it for a roadtrip to hiltonhead all in comfort with space.
