What's a GTS like as a daily driver (in nice weather)? I am currently in a 72 LT-1 Vette which I am selling. I don't drive it much as it is all original and the local Vette club only likes to Show or Cruise (yawn). I like the Viper guys here as they run their cars. I race SRF in SCCA.

It's perfect up in Canada so it should be even better down in Long Island. The only thing that you can't get for your Viper is snow tires.

Another problem is to find a safe place to park your car since the hood and the tank are not locked.

Then there is a problem with these big rails made by trucks. We have a lot of them up in Quebec. In fact take care of everything on the road as if you were driving a motorcycle. Viper is a great daily car better than Edmunds says. I was also scared a little before I bought my ACR. Now I 110% satisfied.

Check my site http://www.geocities.com/andkovacs.

I talk about my driving impression.

A GTS is fine as a daily driver in warm weather. I drive mine every day when there isn't snow or salt on the roads. Go for it!

I think its fine as a daily drive. Dont know about the Gen 1 cars but when I get in mind the last thing that goes thru my mine is whether its comfortable.

My 98GTS was about 4 years old and paid off. I was in the market for a new car. I bought a new car and I kept the Viper. A year later I sold the other car.

I'm back to using the Viper as a Daily Driver. The way new cars depreciate economically I'm better off just driving the Viper until it falls apart. So far I have 29K miles on it. It's 5 years old. Has no mechanical problems. Has not ever broken down on me. Has required no major repairs.

The only problem I have is that all of a sudden teenagers will start looking at me. I have no idea why and then I realize I'm in the Viper. Also its like the fastest gun in the west. Everyone wants to race you. A guy yelled out at me, "Do you want to race?" I was thinking I would just name the car that.

Other than that I wouldn't be worried about it.

Great car to drive in the nice weather. I do it and LOVE it. I bought the car new and it has been just a little over a year and have 14,950 miles on the car as of yesteday. Only problem is the attention factor, parking arrangements, and the clutch in traffic. Other than that, it is GREAT! If you have any other questions feel free to ask. I should be able to help.

The fact that you are asking the dreaded "DD" question makes me want to suggest to you a Vette. But since you do race then you should be comfortable in a Viper. My 98 RT/10 has 92K+ miles.

I never said they were the same...however the 72 LT-1 ruled it's day every bit as much as the Viper does today. There something primeval when you start and run a hi reving small block with headers and side pipes.

?? I thought with the keychain fob you could lock the car? I'm looking at an RT/10, not a GTS, but, was under the impression that you could lock the car.

Am I mistaken?

The hood has no lock. It just trips the alarm when opened. The gas cap has no lock. There are after market locking caps that work. I do wish someone would make a lock for the hood.

Yes you can lock the car with the fob. But you can still open the hood-the alarm just goes off. The gas cap does not lock.

I've driven a Viper daily for the last 5 years, but I'm not quite at Chuck's 98K miles- I've only put about 82K on my cars. The rear tires like to pick up every nail in the road after they are more than 50% worn. The only real problem I see is that you get so use to driving the car that some of the excitement is lost. Driving in traffic can be a pain because the car is so low that some drivers miss you and you can't see over anyone.

The only problem I have had using these as daily drivers is that everyone on the road seems to be in my way ;)

Daily driver? No problem at all.

1. This car is quite comfy. Even the first time I drove one, I didn't notice the lack of dead pedal.
2. If it's hot out, the A/C is ice cold. If it's cold out, the cabin warms up so quickly that it's a non-issue.
3. The clutch, although not as easy as the buttery clutches of today's cars, is no more stiff than that of my old '89 Daytona.
4. As long as you have a safe spot in which to park at work, you'll never really worry about door dings.
5. I have yet to receive a negative look or comment. Folks really respect this car!
