Just taking this opportunity to "Poll" some of you other Viper owners;

Has anyone here actually CAUSED damage to your car from wheel hop?
(On stock tires)

Just trying to gauge how bad it really is for the car.

Wheel hop doesn't do the motor any good either, the only drag motor I ever blew (not Viper) was during a wheel hop session.

About one year ago there was a video posted on the corvette site where a C5 had wheel hop and the car tore the complete rear suspension free of the chassis. The body ended up about 50 feet from the pumpkin and suspension. This happened on the line at the dragstrip.

Reason I ask is that when the road is cold, and tires are cold, if I start screwing around at ALL, it hops easy as hell. I have the 1200+HP Unitrax shafts, so is there really anything to worry about or keep an eye on? If it starts hopping, I always let off... not like I try to ride it out.

The Viper's multi-link rear suspension was designed for road racing, not drag racing. Wheel hop is an inherent characteristic. Stay in it and a broken axle shaft will sooner or later result.
