The Canadian police has started extensively using this device:

Spectre IV Radar Detector Detector

In a week they have seized more than 120 detectors !

It seems that so far only the BEL STI is missing in the trophy box.

They can detect all the ****** brand fom 500ft ...

All radar detectors can be detected within a certain range. They all have oscillators inside them that can be picked up. Radar Detector Detectors are very sensitive.

Thats not accurate, unless there is a new Detector Detector I dont know about, the STi, has no leaky RF. I have had the detector detector right next to one.

Considering that radar detectors are only illegal in DC, Virginia, and in
CDL vehicles, why would it matter if the cops have developed a better
detector detector? With Virginia's assenine laws and regulations (I just
gave them a $491 parking ticket) I no longer spend any money in VA -
don't even stop for gas if possible. The way I look at it is that that state
doesn;t want outsiders on their turf and I'm cool with it.

I don't even bother turning my detector off anymore when I get pulled
over - I have discovered an ****** cop will give you a ticket regardless
if you have one or not, while most cops just consider it part of the
ticket-tax game.

Sorry but I disagree. At some section of the detector detector there has to be an open window to pass RF to be able to receive RF. To my knowledge there is nothing that will allow RF in but not out.

are you saying there is something new?

I'm saying I have never seen a radar detector detector not be able to pick up a radar detector. They all have leakage even with the shielding. There has to be a pathway for the external RF to travel into the unit and that pathway has a window that "should" allow RF to travel in (to find a detector) and out (leakage). The windows to my knowledge are not one way (only letting RF in, not out) and if they are that is definitely something I have never seen nor heard of.

So is the Bel STi the only way to go? Any word from Valentine 1 on this?

Here's a link on the Bel of interest: BEL STi driver by Beltronics...really undetectable?

Any good price on a Bel STi? Over $400 everywhere it seems.

How's the Bel STi compare with the Valentine with rear detection (i.e., does it tell you which way the radar is coming from)?

Not to pick a fight but does it really matter which direction the radar is coming from? I have never understood the need for the V1 over my ******. If the darn thing starts beeping I check my speedometer, I don't care where the LEO is in relation to me I just slow down. ;)

I've had V1's for years and I've gotten used to knowing where the radar is coming from, looking for it and then knowing exactly when it's safe to proceed at a modest speed (sometimes over the posted limit) ;). There's no guessing where it's coming from...it works!

Arrows.....You don't realize how much you use it or how valuable it is until you drive something other than a V1

It's tremendously helpful and has to be experienced to be understood. It matters a lot where the LEO is, e.g., is he back up an off-ramp, is he ahead and under a bridge, etc. can all impact how you respond.

RadarTest.com - Best radar detector reviews from the world's most respected authority. is an awesome site for info.

The Bell Sti and the Excort Passport 9500series use the same technology and are undetectable. The V1 is 'loud' and easily detected.

I own the SRX (excort Passport) and the new 9500i which uses GPS for internet upload of speed and redlight camera sites. No comparison to anything else.

V1 has the absolutely highest rating of false signals I've ever seen tested. When I bought a cheapo Cobra and was using it across the US I got tired of every building alonside the freeway causing alerts so the one time I should have paid attention I UNHOOKED the detector and threw it in the backseat, getting myself pulled over!

Here in the west (even Alberta) we are allowed radar detectors so the cops don't use a detector detector. I bought 'safe' and GPS because we drive a lot of miles in my Viper and we do the US a lot. two tickets means about $800 to the Gov. and driver's penalty points. $1,000 for a detector is free. After I spend the $1,000 I can show you my electronics whereas the Gov. takes my money and then they want my license because that nets them more money. No one cares that I don't get in accidents or am a good driver cause it's not about driving ... it's about taking your money!

You criminals should all drive the speed limit like I do. Then you wouldn't need to worry about detector detectors. Miscreants.

I have you know that if you're not drunk or racing the cops speeding isn't a criminal offense, it's a GIVE ME YOUR MONEY offense. I even pay ALL my taxes too!!!

If you never speed then you're stealing those tax dollars!!!

King Snake-

I live in NOVA and have been RIGHT NEXT to a state and local cruiser with my BEL STI blaring, and they were clueless....

You live in VA, you NEED the STI (trust me).

I stumbled onto a police forum where they were discussing radar detectors. It was shocking to see our "public servants" write in such hate filled tones about we criminals who "only own the detectors so we can break the law". It was obvious by the venom they were spewing they believe that those of us who own these detectors are to be treated just as if we were robbers or killers. We ARE after all breaking THEIR laws. It made me feel that, at least these forum users, take it personal when we dont bow down. They even bragged about when they walk up to a car that has a detecter, its a guaranteed ticket.

Sad, but not unexpected. Typical police power trip BS.

I suggest that you post on THOSE forums the truth that the SR7 and the SRX as well as the Passport 9500i all receive the safety messages of "Emergency Vehicle", Fire truck, Road Closed, Road Construction, etc. Altogether there are about 25 safety radar signals being used in North Amercia today. The radar transmitter that turns traffic signals to RED also sends out the safety code to ****** Passport radar detectors. I assume that the Bell Sti also has the same safety messages being that it uses the same technology as the Passports?

Safety codes/messages are listed in the aforementioned detectors owner's manual.

Just because the ancient V1 doesn't use any of the advanced technologies and is the same unit a sold 5 years ago doesn't mean that all other highend Detectors are old tech as well.

If I get pulled over I try to educate the cops because it seeems that they don't get told the safety stuff about the 'good' detectors.
