Dead battery

Hey there fellas, quick question. Bought my first new Viper 3 months ago and it seems that if i dont turn the car on for 4 days the battery dies. The car has been at the dealer for a week and they are unable to fix the electrical issue it has. Has anyone had this problem with their new Gen 5 viper?

Hi. I don't own a Viper but I had a brand new Subaru STI back in 2008 that had the same issue. Battery died after just few days without the car being started. 3-5 days. The Subaru dealership told me the problem COULD BE related to the keyless entry/engine start system. My STI was the only one with that system at the time and no other Subaru or STI had this issue. When the car was in the garage, the key was hanging near by, that meant the keyless system was on stand by, draining battery. I never got to really test if this was the case or not, since I couldn't really store the key far enough away from the car because it was supposed to sense the key within a certain distance (can't remember how far). Just wanted to chime in and maybe this is a similar issue with the Viper?

If they haven't done it yet, I would insist on them putting a new battery in. If you bought a car that has sat for a year or 2, you don't know what happened to it previously. Perhaps it was never a good battery. If they can't find an electrical drain, then suspect the battery. PM sent.

Thanx for the input...yes they have put in a new battery and u might be correct as i do leave the keys inside the car the whole time since it does sit in my garage.

If battery has been drained by leaving keys in car (or close by), this can be verified by the ignition off draw test.

I've been having the same issue. I've had the viper dealerships look at it for MONTHS in the shop and they still haven't been able to fix the issue!

When I put my car in hibernation, it still didn't help. The car still managed to 'wake up' the dashboard and drain the battery within 24-48 hours.

Some of us only have about 6-7 months of "drive time".
Right now we have a few inches of snow and single digit temps!
I just disconnect my batteries on unused vehicles!

Just FYI - my Gen 5 gets parked for weeks with the key inside without issue. I bought it off the showroom floor where it sat for a year. The battery was toast and was replaced when I accepted delivery. What you're experiencing is not normal. Maybe the dealer replaced an old battery with an old battery?
Keep taking it back till they fix it. Masking the problem with a trickle charger is gonna kill your battery.

I got my car back from the dealer bout 6 weeks with no further problems...apparently they replaced another sensor..i have not had any problems since, and i also stopped leaving my keys near the car for fear that they keys would keep the car on standby mode ready for start up.

1 of each was replaced..dont know if that was it or it was just me leaving the keys in the car 24-7 but i have not had issues since

Well gents im sorry to say i just came back from a 6 day trip and i tried turning on my Viper and it wont start. I will be taking it back to dealer for the 3rd time with this issue. Any advice on lemon laws?

Lemon laws are different from state to state. There are variances in the number of times the same defect occurs, the total number of defects, the number of days the vehicle is out of service and the type of defects. Some states have 3, others 4 for the same problem. Most have a time period that the vehicle is out of service, typically 30 days. Some have a long time period to file, up to 5 years, as long as the problems are noted within a certain period. Contact a local zone representative and go around the dealer if you want to keep the car and get it resolved. One problem I have noticed over the years at many dealerships is that the most inexperienced mechanic in the shop performs the warranty repairs. The senior techs do all the "expensive" out of warranty work and only get pulled into repairs when they become "problems" for the dealer!

Yeah..im pretty pissed..although i do love this car its been nothing but tecalls and this problem since i purchased it. Ive had it for 5 months and its been at the dealer getting serviced for 2 months. Don't know how much longer i will keep it

Do not blame the car, blame the bad mechanics and the dealer that have been working on your car. When it is correctly diagnosed and fixed the car will be awesome, like it should be.

Not sure if they are separate issues or not. However I had a strange electrical issue: the dash would state that the key fobs were not detected and the vehicle wouldn't start. The dealer replaced the WIN module and ordered new key fobs. That repair was 4 months ago and the issue hasn't occurred again. Though I constantly have the battery hooked up and plugged into a Deltran tender. Dodge dropped the quality control ball big on this car and it's frustrating. Keep us updates.
