Did dodge ever make the 96 GTS paint job on a RT10?

Which year(s)? How about just the base color (blue that is)?

The reason I ask is because I looked at the VIN registry and saw that the RT10s in 1997 were blue, but I've never seen a picture of one colored that way (I've seen the opposite but the stripes were too small...)

How much would you wager it would cost to paint say, a 1998 that way? Would I hose the value of the car in the process?

Thx.

If I understand what you are asking, yes they did paint 97 Vipers blue with white stripes but there was only ONE solid blue 97 RT/10. Pretty odd car, definately a neat one. As for killing the value of your car, it's exactly that, it's your car and if you ever wanted to sell it somebody who wants a blue/white rt/10 wouldn't probably care where as a buyer of an "original" viper would want it completely the way as it did when it rolled out of the factory.

The opposite ones you saw are 96's with gen 1.5 motors in them( my terminology), 415 HP with no roll-up windows but GTS style wheels and interior accents.

It's you're car, enjoy it.

Tony,

Yes, I believe it was in '98 that there was one car rumored to have the smoothie hood. Anyone know who owns that car? What color was it, Red?

There is definitely ONE car that we know of that "snuck" out of the factory even though the decision was made in '98 to convert ALL Vipers to the GTS hood.

This decision was made after our Presidents meeting revealed to our friends at Dodge that we (general Viper population as expressed by all the regional Presidents) wouldn't be "offended" if both cars looked a bit closer in design. A matter of fact, there were plenty of roadster owners that were already considering switching to the GTS hood just for "the look"!

Jon B, where are you...as I believe I remember this funny story:

A gentleman came on the website and asked "I just received my issue of Viper Mag, and there is pictures of '98's with GTS hoods... when did they switch from smooth hoods in '98 like mine has?" to which Jon replied "Go away, how could you ask such a silly question...I bet you don't even own a Viper!" ...well, one thing led to another and somehow Jon confirmed that, in fact, this person DID have what seems to be the ONLY '98 that left the factory with smoothie!

Please do not incriminate me if this story is flawed... brain fade begins at 40!

That is probably the only thing I wish that they had done differently. I really like the GTS hood. Oh well maybe better luck next time!

Basically True! The owner actually discovered ON OUR SITE that his car was unique! Correction: I initially challenged him to ensure the car had not been, unknown to him, WRECKED. I did not challenge his ownership, manhood, etc...just

I contacted CAAP who initially DENIED it.....until VCA Life-Member JPHinckley hiz-self resurrected the parts billing paperwork and discovered the uniqueness. Another note: Thos who have 1998 SALES BROCHURES will see that the RT is displayed w/ smoothie hoods. 3 PPVs were indeed built with smoothies, and I do believe that at least one of them survives...in SILVER.

Sorry Jon, I've got to smack those brain cells around a bit! You would never challenge anyone (other than in a fun way!).

2Tall, Yes there were 51 1997 RT/10's with the Blue/White GTS-stye color combo. However, these RT/10's still had the "smoothie" hood without the NACA duct and vents.

I would venture a guess that a very good paint job would cost in the neighborhood of $7K.

Craig, actually, 1996's had the same interior styling as previous years. They were all black though, with some color-coordinated accents. The 1997 RT/10's got the updated GTS style dash.

Nope, they all had smoothie hoods. (1) got out painted all blue no stripes.
