I have never had to take my car in before this.

I took my baby in for the frame recall and because the timing cover was leaking, it was all warranty work. I was wondering if it was p.c. to tip you tech? I was thinking of giving him a $50-is this out of line (or to little?

75 and sunny, time to pick her up and stretch her legs a little :) :)

I would say that $50 is probably a little much, but it depends on what you feel. When I had my Corsa put on, the guy doing it worked his a$$ off to get it done in the time frame I had. He even cut his lunch hour short for me. I did the ole shake his hand with a $20 in it before I left and he seemed confused. He said "You really don't have to do that". I just said I appreciated the care he took and the fact that he cut his lunch short. He was all grins after that. :2tu: It doesn't hurt to keep your tech on your good side as you might need a favor in the future. Also, if you start with a $20, you can always go to a $50. Hard to go the other way!

The last time I didn’t even have enough left over after paying the shop bill to go to MacDonald’s, let alone having anything left for tip..

treat others the way you like to be treated. besides whats $40 today??? if you own a viper im sure a few bucks to make someone happy will go a long way and will not hurt your pocket. now on the other hand if you own a viper you could be a cheap B****** too thats why you own a viper..

Wow, you $50 tippers sure make it ******* the rest of us.
I lived in Europe for 3 yrs and the tip was included in the restaurant tab. Americans tipped anyway and the wait staff began to expect the double-tipping.
Tues. I tipped my transport driver a $20 and he was plenty grateful.

I over tip big time for very good to great service and do not tip at all for any sub par service especially with service ie restaurants etc and I am glad to tell them why. In the end I figure there are enough jerks that rub you the wrong way that dont deserve or get the tip (but usually still expect it)to make up for these special ones that go the extra yard and I am glad to throw them a big one. Trust me, most business owners (my self inlcuded) want honest feedabck if their folks up up to par or not before its too late and they loose customers. Yes I tip the Viper tech, extra insurance as well.

I tried to tip my Prowler Technician when I had a ball joint recall done and he wouldn't take it. He even let me sit and watch, ask questions, take pictures etc.! Good guy.

Tipped $20 once and took him to ******* for lunch another time. I'm pretty sure he enjoyed the wings and (.)(.) the most. Always treats me great including getting to be in the shop with the car. :D

Well, I've only taken my Viper in once and I didn't get the chance to tip the guy. I couldn't find him when I picked up the car.

The question is, is there a point at which you STOP tipping? I mean, you don't tip the owner of a restaurant, nor the pilot of the airplane, right? Would you tip your attorney or doctor? (No lawyer jokes!) Isn't there a certain level of professionalism where people would be a little insulted by a tip? Are Viper techs at this level? At least on this board, they tend to have that same level of respect.

Not that I'm against tips. Heck, I tipped the guy at the Auto Train $50 for a little "extra care" while loading my car on the train just last week so it's not that I'm cheap. :p

On the other hand, my father is a roadside technician for Mercedes-Benz and very senior but still likes to get tips. He used to give them to me when I was a kid and would ride along.

You don't always need to use cash either. I have given copies of Viper Magazine, T-Shirts, or even something picked up at the viper Shop At CAAP. But I am sure CASH works just fine.

I don't tip with Cash, that can really make others in the service department feel left out, and can also lead to other negative feelings.

What I try to do is drop off a bunch of Wings for them before lunch, that way they can all be involved in your tip! Of course, pizza works too, but I am a Wing lover!! :2tu:
