My used purners just showed up (woo hoo!) with these Hoosier Road Racing tires (27.0x14-16) on the rears. They also say R45 on them. They look like they are in OK shape, but are they best for drag racing?

Did the guy selling these to me use the wrong tires when he was racing, or are these just fine?

They also say 11x8 somewhere on there... so I'm tryign to figure out what size the tires are and more importantly, what size I need to buy to replace them. They _are _16"... I know that much.

And how do you tell a good drag-racing tire from a bad one?

Thanks in advance for any help y'all can provide!

Sounds like you have a road racing tire on those wheels, the side wall will not be soft enough for draging, you will want to us the ET Streets, call John Purner about the wheel setup you have so that you can get the correct tire for the wheels.

Turns out the tires are old-school road racing tires. I'm taking them off, and 1TONY1 is hooking me up w/ some MT ET Streets.

If anyone in GA wants the old tires (2), just come and get them.

What Y want is following: (based on that you have a 10" wide rim)
M/T ET Street 26 x 11.5 x 16
or
M/T ET Street 28 x 12.5 x 16 (new for 2003 season)
or
Hoosier QT DOT 28 x 14.5 x 16 (then you need a 11-12" rim)

So here's the question... How can I measure the rim width with a tire on the rim? If I can't, and let's say I remove the tire thats coming off anyway, do I measure the inside lip to inside lip, or outside lip to outside lip?

John, What width are the drag rears and what width do you think he may have ? tnx
to use the m/t's i make a 16x10, the wheels in question are most likely at least a 16x12 and could be as wide as 13.5 (i have made both variations depending on the application, knowing where they came from would help narrow it down)
the tire to use on them will most likely be the hoosier 28x14.5x16 (dot leagal so the 14.5 referrs to the sidewall width, but in real terms its a 28x12ish tire)
last i looked the tires were about 200 or so each, and are in stock

hum...

The tires came from a guy in Irvine CA who sold them to me. There were road-racing tires on the rears, but the fronts are definitely skinnies w/ firestone 16" tires on them.

I measured the inside lip-to-lip and it is about 10.5". Am I measuring wrong?
