Has anyone heard of this? A couple of years ago I read an article about giving Dream Rides to sick and terminally ill children. This is a great idea, and would love to donate my time and Viper GTS to this cause. It would be great if other Viper owners would take part as well!...00PROWLER...

Also check with your state hospice organizations. Some states
have special hospice groups just for terminal children. When you
talk to them, if there is no such program, maybe you could start
one. I work with hospice groups on another level, there is nothing more rewarding.

Chuck this would be great. Count me in. I JUST NOW saw a TV show with a motorcycle club in Tampa doing a bunny run for kids in different hospitals.

They didn't give the kids rides on the bikes just went to visit and bring some stuffed bunnies for Easter. The kids that were well enough went down to look at and sit on the bikes. The ones who were too sick looked out the windows at them.

I think the big thrill was just having different people visit them for a while and bring some toys. I know we would not have the impact of a bunch of bikers but I am sure we could make a few kids forget they are sick even if it is for a hour or two.

I would LOVE to do something along these lines. Maybe we could include a nursing home or two also. Chuck let's get the others and do something.

I know a few people over at Children's Cancer Center of Tampa. I only know them through phone conversations but I am sure they could help point us in the right direction.

Did I just volunteer for something? My organizational skills are non-existant but if I need to be somewhere then I'll be there. What do I need to do?

HA HA ya bastige. I am zero on organizing also but will be there when needed. I also hate the responsibility of thinking ok I will do this every year. IT is tooooooooo much like a commitment. Is this why we are 40 something and single.

I have a good amount of free time. I will think of a few things and then see if anyone is up for them, ok?

Yah, I was interested in the link on JonB's web site too, but I sent an e-mail (couple months ago) with no response...

I know I should do more digging, but I would really like to do something like this...Guess what, it was a New Year's resolution, and so far all I have done is sponsored and mentored a couple kids from the San Jose children's shelter and brought em to a Sharks game!! Which was very kewl...

Viper Club of America is registered with Make a Wish and if a child has a wish related to vipers then a local club would be contacted.

As for setting something up yourself "just do it". Last year one of our members who owns a repair shop was having his 30th anniversary of being in business and asked if any members wanted to provide rides and donate the proceeds to Make a Wish. He did alot of advertising and the event was a great success. We sold rides for $10 a shot, we started a 9am and had to cut it off at 2pm because our cars were wore out, if we hadn't stopped we would have been going for hours more. We gave over 120 rides and with our clubs addition donated $1500 to Make a Wish.

One of our most successful and rewarding events.

I too would desperately like to spread some joy to these kids. Sometimes when im in a parking lot and kids ask me how old i am, and i say seventeen i feel ashamed about it. I never thought that having such a high profile car at this age would sometimes make me upset and discouraged. But if i could do some good with the car, then the highs would definately outweigh the lows. If i could do something great for one kid, well then i dont think i would feel embarrased or ashamed anymore. If anyone has any info about these kinds of projects in northern new jersey, let me know [email protected]
thanks

HI ALL, Since were spread out all over the country, I think it is something that should be done at a local level. I am going to contact a local childrens hospital and see if this is something they would be interested in. I am going to try to get a bank of local cars,Vettes,Street rods, cobras, etc,as well! Even if they all are not able to go for a ride, we could do a benifit show! Anyone in the Hartford CT area interested, please contact me...Thanks...AL...00PROWLER...

A little over a year ago I participated in a fund raiser for my daughter's elementary school. We auctioned off a ride at the silent auction. I also took Polaroid pictures of people in the driver's seat with or without a helmet. These were "bought" by using the tickets the school sold for all the activities. I donated all of my time and the film. I don't know the final amount that was raised by my activities but I was busy for all three hours of the fund raiser, most of the time with a line of at least a couple of people waiting to have a picture taken (kids and adults).
