Team Viper (or PVO or SRT or whatever they call themselves now) must be cringing at creating a car with 1.15 lateral Gs being used in such a manner. What a waste!

"What a waste!"...a waste is a Viper sitting in a garage all shiny.

AviP...I guess you didn't read the press release. PVO & Mopar are thrilled to have such a talented driver in the CC. It's win win for everyone and as you can see the crowd FREAKS!!!...when the CC comes out..as usual!!!

The SCCA is considering sanctioning drifting events if they haven't already...it's becoming popular for spectators.

It's the newest thing (in America), it has been very popular in Japan for a while..... It is interesting that Mopar is diving in with a Viper as most "drift" sport compacts. We post the events in the events forum, the next event is this weekend: Laguna Seca

I find it interesting that there will be a factory-backed Comp Coupe in "drifting" and yet no word on any effort for LeMans, etc. Or did I miss that announcement? Fun to see the Viper out pleasing the crowds as always, just wish it was at 100+ miles an hour...

I agree about your first line. I almost never kep my Viper shiny, just check it out at the next club meet. And I drive it everywhere including off-road if I have to. This year I'm considering driving it from NY/NJ to Barrow, Alaska. I enjoy my car and don't fuss over it.

As far as PVO and Mopar being thrilled, sure, it's publicity. I was referring to the engineering minds who designed the car for maximum stability (lateral Gs) and must cringe at the deliberate misuse of that stability.

You mean nascar isn't enough?

Drifting is stupid and plays to a demographic without driver's licences or disposable incomes.

If those kids want to see drivers with skill in a power slide, then they should go to any of the good dirt/clay tracks across the US. Those guys can really drive and they aren't just needlessly burning up tires.
