Took the creampuff to the dyno last night, not the best night for the dyno 100% humidity with 88-90 degree Temp. The engine suffered from major heat soak, however it made 543 HP and 581 ft lbs torque. I believe with better weather those numbers would be up 20 each. Larry Macedo tuned the computer between each pull and the throttle response now is incredible, this thing pulls much harder now. The amazing thing was the torque at 2800 rpm was 575 ft lbs with an almost straight line all the way over to 5200 rpm then it starts to slowly move down. I'll take it to the track next week and see if I can grab that high 10 second pass on street tires. I think headers are next, then throttle bodies.

How does he tune a Viper? I've been wondering this! I know they have LS1 Edit for Vette's, but do they have something similar for the Viper? Does he just play with the Vec2? Nice power!

John, nice #'s considering the weather. The humidity has been a drag. Speaking of drags. Go grab those radials from Ward and let her rip. After seeing the car in BG, I am sure 10's will be attainable, but then weren't you the one who cut a 1.5x 60 on pilots.

Sean Roe's VEC2 is programmable. I will not pretend to discuss the technical side here, but Larry was able to burn new cards in his laptop and then change fuel curves, timing etc at different rpms, I don't know if it has the same depth as LS1 edit, but it sure has helped my car. I drove the car all day and the butt dyno doesn't lie, the car is way more responsive at the bottom end. too much traffic and not enough of the great American open road to wind the car out, but next weak I'll see how the top end of the RPM band responds.

JSmith,

I am thinking about framing those Michelins and putting them on a shelf, most people don't beleive me when I tell them. Generally I hit 1.7s, sometimes 1.6s on them, but I must have just gotten it right or lucky at BG. I have a set of the drag radials, but no rims to mount them on.

What is your prelaunch/launch routine? I can't figure out how in the world you get 1.55's on Pilots! Long burnout? No burnout? Spankin new tires? Fill us in!!!!! :)

I don't think there is any really mystery to getting a good launch, the Viper, especially a force induction one is all about torque. I focus on moderating that torque through the clutch when I leave the line, this will tend to heat your clutch and eventually kill it. There is a point where the tires will hold and it is just at the threshold of breaking the tires loose, this is different on every car and you just have to find it with practice. With the street tires or the drag radials I just clean them off with a good hard burn out. I don't do any power braking, if I'm next to someone who is doing an extensive burn out I will sometimes back up and spin them a little more, if I did the first burn out correctly then the second burnout doesn't even spin the tires and I know they are ready to hook. I don not spend a lot of time looking at my launch rpm, I launch by the sound of the engine and the feel through the pedals I also focus on the lights, if I am above .62 - .64 on reaction time generally my entire run suffers.

That's insane 60 foots considering I am just not hitting high 1s on old MXX3s. This year on Kumhos see how they go.

Congrats, I'd say you have the car maximized on the launch. I pulled 1.55s on one of my high school mustangs and the front end was off the ground!

take care,

John, this was one thing I noticed at BG. You were on the drag radials and you would just do a long rolling burnout. Bg was my first runs with the drag radials so I was told to really get some heat in them 1st time out.

I think next time out I will just do what you were doing because it didn't seem you were having any more trouble hooking than anyone else.

More torgue than power....they say torque is what wins races.

Doug Levin is right... we certainly have the heat and humidity going on in Florida right now. I know having it rain while you dyno plus our high humidity on top of that is not prime dyno conditions....

Still fine numbers you and Larry got considering only 2 mods you have cat-back & T&D's.

From the state (Florida) that produces more supercharged Viper than any other  !

Good nite,

Cudaman :usa:

Doug,

Thank you for the kind words, Sir! A word of encouragement from you makes what I do all that much better. On the flip side, we all know that you and Heffner are the Big Dog's are we're trying to play catch-up over here. Maybe some day we'll be producing those astronomical HP/TQ numbers too.

John,

I just finalized the upgrades and dyno tuned those (2) Porsche 996TT's and they both made respectable numbers. The 03 made 520whp and 530wtq with roughly 500 miles clocked and the 01 made 500whp and 503wtq with roughly 18k miles clocked. I had a gentleman with a Cayenne S (TT) stop in yesterday and ask about some upgrades and tuning. I must admit I got excited with the idea and we'll see what that 450hp monster will make as well.

Fuelman nice numbers! Can you post your dyno sheet?
I am also thinking SC, but like many I am not sure which of the 3 ways to go.
I would like to see HP & torque curves if you can post it.

If any one else has a dyno sheet on a creampuff with a few mods I would appreciate it if you would email to me. [email protected]

Thanks
Andy

JSmith,

I have been told, but not first hand knowledge that when you first get the BFGs you need to do a good hard burnout then let the car sit over night and jack the rear up to get the weight off the tires. Again, I was not told this by BFG. Some of my friends that use BFGs on other cars have told me that you do not need to do a big smokey burnout, just clean them off and heat them a little, on my LS1 car I use Nittos, the Nittos seem to hook better with a 5-7 second smokey burnout, the line lock helps. At BG when I first used the BFGs they were difficult to powerbrake, thus I just started to clean them off and dropped the pressure to 17.5 psi, I pulled a lot of 1.6s with them, which is what I expected.
