All,
We've had our SRT back from Dan Cragin's shop for about a month now, which is enough time for the ECU to finish its learning curve. The SRT has Dan's "Stage 1" performance modifications: ported heads, VGX valve springs, upgraded lifters, and K&N air filters. It is otherwise bone stock, down to the 4 cats and stock (quiet) exhaust. As I previously mentioned, it drives just like a stocker, only with a bit more urgency, especially above 3200 RPM.

On the dyno today, it became evident why it feels a bit quicker :) Evidently the ECU has picked up quite a few ponies since Dan dyno'd it just after the modifications were performed:

That's right, 509 RWHP & 538 RWTQ SAE in an SRT which looks, sounds and drives like a stock factory model. I honestly couldn't be more pleased -- Dan's package delivered considerably more than I expected, at a VERY modest price (under $3K), and has sacrificed nothing.

Next up: a visit to ye local dragstrip...

Aye Carumba - what a great package - and definitely a "sleeper" (if a Viper can ever be called that....)

Congrats, Ben. Gotta love those numbers. Now, leave Liz's car alone unless she's begging for more power.... :)

Shhhhh - she doesn't need to know. "Honest honey, it was just the recall service..." ;)

Great numbers but the difference you are seeing is in lack of proper dyno operation.

Not unusual to see considerably higher numbers when compared to R&D they are known for no fluff numbers that is why people who know go to them.

I would be willing to almost guarantee you that if you went back there the numbers would be identical to what DC got originally.

Ben;

Any time you have a hankering to spend quality time with any of my cars just call...

Seriously, sounds like a great deal. We can't have Liz beaten by the 600 now can we?

Clearly not  Besides, there will soon be 500HP Z06s and 500HP Ford GTs which need to be put in their place...

Russ - what you say is interesting, but does not jive with my experience. There are three local Dynojet dynos in my area, and they all read within 2% of each other. Apex's dyno is usually the most conservative.

It will be interesting to see how the car does in the 1/4.

Believe me I have seen it time and time again, and APEX is one of the places whose numbers always seem to be a bit eleveted.

Another thing you want to do is make sure they were testing real world temps, I can make a viper have 15more hp just by a bit longer cooling.

Good luck at the track, and please make sure it runs faster than the Benz

Miles - exactly right, I had the same thought. It might just be an artifact of the sniffer (downstream of the cats), but that's awfully rich. A computer upgrade that trimmed out the top end could be worth a significant amount of HP. Another thought is to swap in the ECU from the Comp Coupe. Has anyone tried this?

WHOA! The sniffer was DOWNSTREAM of the cats?

I would think that would mean less oxygen and fuel in the exhaust! When I wideband a bike I always put the **** within 6 inches of the port - further away definitely yields "leaner" readings. I can't imagine how much of a difference being on the bad side of 2 cats in series would cause!

Correct, the dyno used a tailpipe sniffer. I share your belief that going downstream of the cats results in a leaner reading. The fact that it still read 10.5:1 at the top end makes me think there's power to be had there with an ECU tune.

Is the SRT ecu still as hard as the Gen2 apparently was to tune?

Maybe the next bang for buck will be aftermarket engine management, depending on the results..
