I searched the post but didn't really see an answer for my following question....

I am putting on new EBC Green pads (front and back) - do I really need to have the rotors turned after only 2K with stock pads?

Or is there an easy way to "prep" the rotors for the EBC greens?

Thanks

Thanks - that's what I was planning, but thought I remember somewhere somebody suggesting that you turn them. I thought that was a little over kill.

Thanks for the feedback..........

I want to do this myself soon and am completely clueless although I did all other basic maintenance myself like oil, trans fluid, antifreeze, diff fluid, etc.

What type of sanding wheel would I need? I have a drill and an angled buffer/sander. Something like sandpaper? What grit or multiple? Could I just do this right on the car after the pads are removed? What would the process be?

I was planning to just use a fine grade sandpaper - just to get the old stock pad residue off. From what I've heard the hardest part is going to be the rear brakes. I ordered the "tool" from JonB. I've done disk brakes before, but it sounds like the back ones are a little tricky.

The EBC information points out very clearly that the material used in the stock brake pad is total incompatible with the EBC material, so I assume I just need to get old pad material off.

95,
my tech used the drill bit attach with i think some medium grade
sand paper. i mean the rotors looked new!!!
when he was done.
definitely off the car work.
front and back of each rotor was buffed clean and shined like new.

I would not use fine grade.
you want to make sure all the old material is off .. and to make quick work of it
i would go medium.

basically just make'em look new.
good luck
JIM :)

I use the 3M Brake resurfacing kit that I buy from my friendly Snap-On man...works well...120 grit as I remember.

Off the car work? Really? The surface of the rotors can't be scuffed with sandpaper while still on the car?

No, I skuff the rotors ON the car...battery powered drill with "3M Brake Rotor Surfacing Discs" part # 01410...the 01 and 02 cars are a little tougher at the rears, but doable. It helps to use a mid-rise lift as well.

Isn't that pretty hard to get the back side of the rotor? Most rotors that I have been familiar (other cars) with just come right off after you pull off the wheels and pads.....

Are Viper rotors bolted on or something? Is the back different than the front?

Maybe somebody can give me a run down on the procedures for replacing the pads - front and back. I guess I shouldn't assume these work just like other disk brakes..........

As noted above, 01 and 02 Viper rear rotors ARE different mounted differently than 92-00...but just 2 bolts to remove if you wish. I PERSONALLY have NO trouble doing BOTH sides of the rotors from underneath the rear end on 01 and 02 Vipers. On the front rotors, I merely cut the wheels to full lock to reach the inner surface. By carefully and thoroughly "skuffing" the rotors in this fashion prior to use with EBC Greenstuff pads, I have NOT seen any problems...including squealing...have done more than 10 sets on our Vipers and helping other Club members.

I have about 750 miles on my green pads and they are starting to squeal similarly to the original stack pads.

Any suggestions or similar experiences?
