There is an email virus that can attach itself to email addresses and get sent to people. I do not know how this works but I have received a few(luckily did not open them)and have had correspondence from folks who have received them from my email address.

IF you receive an email from me and are not expecting one, don't open it. If you do and get a virus..don't come to me. I will not open emails from any source other than my websites contact page unless I already have a dialogue with a particluar customer.

Im sorry for the inconvience and hopefully this will clear itself soon.

I think this site gets hit by viruses pretty often.

I've had to go to using a Virus checker. I had gotten by without one for several years without a problem, but I like many of the other people on this site probably get about 1 or 2 a month.

I get one or two viruses sent to me daily.

Saving grace has been anti-virus software. If you have ADSL/DSL/Cable Modem where you might be "always on" (and always vulnerable to hackers), you should go for something more complete such as Norton Internet Security (very user friendly with updates that take almost no time and certainly, no skills and includes Norton AntiVirus).

More info on Norton products at www.symantec.com , the manufacturer.

Must be the "Tuner Virus," because one of my customers received one from me as well! The subject line read: "Confidentiality agreement from the Contractor"
Makes it all the more important to have virus detection software on your computers, everyone!

I guess I have been real lucky so far. If I do not know the person or it just does not make sence I dump it unopened.
I had 3 last week one was from "[email protected] re; Hennessey motor sports, the others were from "Systems-admin" "A special new game" and ">" it said "Your diploma is ready"
Sure, I bet it was. Headings like the ones I just listed do not get my interest and I just dump them. If it is so important I am sure they can find another way to contact me. I have the Norton anti V scan but keeping a heads up also helps.

The Klez virus is actually very crafty. It takes e-mail addresses from .html and other types of files it finds on the user's hard disk. This means that if anyone happens to have some leftover htmls from this site in their cache, the virus will find the files and get every e-mail address it can find. Then it would send a copy of itself using a fake FROM address which, if I remember correctly, also comes from the addresses it harvests from the files. In other words, you would get an e-mail from someone else on the board. It also has many, many subjects it can use and I think the later versions of Klez extract it's own subjects from the files or e-mails on the system.

The big problem is that most people in the industry believe Klez is just a test virus. It's one of the most prevalent viruses in the past couple years but luckily, most strains of it don't have a payload. Some strains, on the other hand, load another very dangerous virus onto your system. It points to a new trend of mixed-threat viruses and this is really just the tip of the iceberg.

If you're wondering why I know all this, I own an anti-virus software company with a new type of anti-virus product. Unlike the mainstream products out there, our product stops new viruses without needing to be updated constantly. It stop viruses it doesn't even know about yet. It can protect any kind of e-mail server. See www.emailgatekeeper.com if you're interested.

Just remember, the virus does not come from this web site. It comes from email lists that you may have been in contact with from this site. ....KLEZ virus

I do virus updates every day at 2am. Some days there are more than one update in a 24hour period. So if your virus definition files are more than two weeks old, you can be in trouble.

At work, during heavy virus periods, we get about 350 viruses per week via full T1 connection. Attempted hacks are over 3000 per month.

I had a computer rental company for six years. Never once did I rent a Mac and it come back virus free. ALL of them had one or more viruses. That was with System 6 and 7. It is amazing how the Mac is now being left alone and Windows is being bombarded.
