My 94 RT had its engine replaced before I bought it. The present engine has been in the car for 8k miles. The engine was replaced under a warranty and the paperwork that I got with the car says that it was replaced with a used engine. I was under the car today and I made a note of the number that I found stamped into the block on the passenger side.there are two numbers one above the other.
12282
4M8-01/A-7-253062
Who can tell me what this number means?

I used to know how to decode those numbers, but I've forgotten a lot. Here goes:

12282= ?

4M8-01/A-7-253062

4= Last digit of model year????
M= Mound Road engine plant
-01= ?
8= 8 liter
/A= Aluminum

The 6 digit numeric is the build sequence:

253= first 3 digits *may be* the calendar day (out of 365) so early September

062= sequential number of engine build for the model year run, (but they made about 2600 cars for 94 and I don't know if they added another digit or not)

Elsewhere on the block on the bellhousing flange, you will find a pin-stamped number with the VIN of the car in which it was installed.

Hope I'm right and I hope it helps.
