Has anyone had a problem with there engine pinging upon accelaration?
My buddy has a 97 GTS and it seems to ping even though he uses premium gas.
Not all the time though just once in a while when he get a 70% on the gas from a stand still. Any ideas? Gave it a tune up
and still doing the same thing.

My 97 GTS had a similar pinging problem. The Viper tech diagnosed it as a leaking intake manifold gasket. Sure enough, he replaced it and the problem went away. The IM gaskets on 97's were a TSB, and I'd had those replaced a couple of years before this problem occurred. I can't guarantee this is the cause of your buddy's problem, but it might be worth checking out.

It could be a bunch of things, but these cars are prone to getting carbon buildup on the tops of the pistons which make hot spots and ignite fuel at the wrong times causing detonation or pinging.

How can you tell if the intake gaskets were replaced from originals?
Just trying to check of things that could be causing the detonation.
