Enough is enough........does anyone realize what\'s going on?

This stems from the post about how to fix the leaks on RT/10's.

This really ****** me off. It's not the money, because obviously the fix is not expensive. But why are we spinning our wheels to fix this problem and not Dodge? Why aren't we all going to our dealers and all raising hell all at once to send a message to Dodge that there is a problem. Where is the recall? My car had loads of water inside and I'm not happy about it. If we had a flood in our house and the rugs got wet they would be thrown out and we'd be filing insurance claims for damage. What's up here? Screw that, I want a new rug for my interior that now smells like rot and mildew. And I want it installed by Dodge. I got home from VOI-7 and haven't had any time to even clean the car becasue I've been busy at work. So now, maybe this weekend when I open the doors and go to clean out the car, what kind of surprise will I see on the carpet? How about that nice looking white-ish ring around the wet spot that you sometimes see when carpets were wet then dry out?

Wiz.....what's going on here? And also my side sills. It ****** me off that I had to spend money on Hi-Flo cats to attempt to reduce the heat problem to get the side sills from yellowing. I know the driver's side was done....but my pass side never was addressed. It's all a matter of principle. We are all doing these fixes on our own and saving Dodge tons of money in the long run....for what....so we could get a VOI ? Is that the perk? So I could listen to Country music, and drive a '03 for 15 seconds around a track made for a Neon, and eat food that was left over from the night before's dinner? Don't do me any favors. Get my car up to what it should be for what I paid for, then let's talk about other things.

How many other things have you guys found and fixed on your own rather than being bothered going to your dealer?

Am I nuts or am I just in a bad mood becasue it's raining and I won't be able to cut my lawn later?

And don't everyone start telling me that I'm ragging on Vipers and Dodge. That couldn't be farthest from the truth.

Its threads like this that keep giving me second thoughts. Please tell me this is NOT the norm and rare isolated incidents. I am about 1 1/2 hours away from Buhler where I would probably buy and get my Viper serviced and for 70 - 80g I don't expect to have to go back for anything. I keep saying first problem with the Z06 its outta here for a Viper but don't want to go from the frying pan to the fire. So far the Vettes performed flawlessly, knock on wood. How big are the heat issues, etc with the Viper?

Honestly , I don't think you can beat a Viper for performance reliability. I push my car hard and it is in fine shape, and I wouldn't trade the car for a Vette, or 'Stang, or anything... but all those little semi-cosmetic things need attention. I remember when I first got the car it squeaked like an old lady. It took me 3-4 trips back to my nearest dealer to finally lube the chasis up enough to stop the problem. My hard top wasn't sealing good and I had to adjust the rear clips...no big deal, but it needed to be done. Then the Side Sills yellowing, now the interior leak. Like I said...all fixable, non-performance related, but you wouldn'
t see this in most other high profile cars. Would a Doctor driving his Coupe D'Ville have to worry about driving in the rain? I know, I know, two diferent cars, but the Viper is 8 years old. Some of these things should not be an issue.

There seems to be inconsistancy in the way things are handled, I expected my side sills to be just re-painted under the warranty but luckily the dealership has secured 2 new sills and heat shields not that I'm complaining, I've had a great support so far ($24.5K worth) thank God for warranty, but these things shouldn't be happening on a run of the mill car never mind a Viper that had been in production for a number of years

I love the car and don't use the warranty at all. I would rather pay for parts then have someone else work on my car, so I guess I'm not in the same boat that many of you are. I do have to say though that DC should have cleared up these issues over the years. Yellowing side sills, just from normal driving? If it was the first year the car was built I would understand, but 10 years later shows that they just don't care. During the factory tour when I was at DC picking up my 2000, I brought up the fact that my brand new car with 15 miles on it squeaks like crazy from the brakes. I didn't bring this up to some worker there, this was the plant manager during a "Dodge is Great" talk in the conference room. His answer was that they built me a street legal race car and squeaky brakes just comes with the territory. Not even a joke, it was his real answer! Although I am VERY pro Viper and I couldn't have been more pro Viper at the time, being that I was at the factory picking up my second one, his answer made me pissed. My feeling is, for the money we pay known issues should be resolved.

Yep...I guess there's a lid for every ***.

Some people will buck the system to stick to convictions and some will just go with the flow every time. In my opinion, that's why systems, businesses, and trends don't change for the better as often as they should.....not enough heart out there to change things. But then life is too short.

Go Dodge in yesterday's Winston Cup race.

I'm done.

Andrew,
I am assuming you went down with the softtop on? Not the hardtop I hope.
It doesn't matter either should not leak. just curious.

When you go to you local dealer for warranty of the rug.
let me know how you make out.

I agree with you 100%!!!

good luck

Strange - Neither of my RT's leaked at all. With either top.

I can not believe I was just "lucky".

Re: Enough is enough........does anyone realize what\'s going on?

Jim / Martin:

I went down with the Hard Top on. I spoke to Chuck Tator and he gave a few suggestions about beefing up the seals around the doors and anywhere else there seems to be a problem.

You know guys, fun is fun and to an extent this board should be fun, but it can also be a business tool for Dodge, no ?

Does anyone at Dodge ever monitor this board, maybe check out the "HOT" topics? In other business forums, call-backs or e-mails would already have gone through concerning a problem like this that almost everyone experiences.

I don't know.....but I did wash my car yesterday with the Hard Top still on and it will stay on for the winter, and sure enough when I got in the car to dry down the door jams, water was inside.

Now the question is how much energy I want to put into this problem.

Re: Enough is enough........does anyone realize what\'s going on?

I recieved an interesting email from my post on this thread. I am going to leave his name out but figured I would share his email. Granted there is good and bad with all cars but I have never seen such drastic difference than with the Viper. People either LOVE it and go to the end of the earth to defend it or HATE it and think it is junk. I do expect some issues or comprimises but there is a limit to what I am willing to deal with. Here the email...

Just wanted to send you a warning email. I just sold my gts two weeks ago. Had it all worked - hennessey the whole nine. Bottom line: the dodge viper is an awesome car to look at. Period. otherwise it is a piece of crap. Tell me what car can you climb in and it starts to get unbearably hot? I can't think of one. The build quality? it's a joke. Save your money. the guys who post on this board - I wonder what car are they driving? It's junk.

I wouldn't say I'm one extreem or the other at all. Nothing is black or white. I'm very happy with the car.....just want Dodge to own up to the problems, pay attention, and fix the problems. Oh, excuse me.....I want what I paid for. Leaks, rattles, and yellowing sills were not on my sticker as an option.

The car kicks *ss....I know, I know..., looks cool, fast, yeah, yeah, yeah....

Interesting e-mail someone sent you, agentf1. But I wouldn't call the car junk.

Andrew, I agree with you, all issues you shouldn't have to deal with in ANY car let alone one that cost as much as a viper. I do expect to have to make some compromises in a car that is as fast/high performance as the viper but not in quality. I can see the air not working great, rough ride, noise, a little heat in the interior, side sills etc but not leaks, yellowing paint and mega rattles or poor fit and finish.

Re: Enough is enough........does anyone realize what\'s going on?

Agentf1 - appreciate the protection but I have no problem claiming that email - I stand by what I said. I will add that maybe junk and crap are poor choices and a little too strong - More like it's a poorly put together auto - in my opinion. But i stand by the awesome power and awesome looks - don't forget handling and gawk factor. I also wish those who do enjoy and love the car all the best - everyone is entitled to their own opinions and passions. I would love to drive the new car to see if the bugs and build quality are fixed, if they are I might come back! I do know that the new one is still hot inside. That ***** - hopefully they will fix it- this time.

Re: Enough is enough........does anyone realize what\'s going on?

Andrew,
I am shocked about it leaking that bad with the hardtop
mine fits snug and no leaks ... at least not yet.
I did take it in right after delivery to have it "adjusted"
to stopped the creaking and rattles and that seemed to make
fit tighter. thus no leaks.

i would definitely MAKE them replace the rug!!

anything less is unacceptable!!
Please keep me posted
