I've got a 96' RT/10 and i'm pretty disappointed with the sound. Being 1 of poor Viper owners, I cant afford to do cat-back exhaust, headers and cats all at once. Is there a good muffler I can buy that will make the car sound louder and/or meaner? About the only thing I like about the stock exhaust is the deacceleration pops. What are some other suggestions to make the Viper sound more like a V10 without spending thousands of $$? TIA

I had just a Corsa Cat back as my first step with the stock cats and stock cast headers - I liked the sound. All I have done since is add the late model tube headers, still with stock cats, and I like the DEEP rumble sound.
So, do the cat back first. Just my thoughts.
Later.

Take off the cats, cheap, relatively easy, more HP, better sound, and cooler internal.

:headbang: The stock cats are huge and extremely restrictive. I have hi flow cats and the sound is much better, extra power, and the side sills much cooler.

The '96 RT/10's are unique in that they have only the rear muffler from the cat back, and you can get a great improvement by just doing a rear muffler delete. Snake-oyl, and Random Tech (from Parts Rack) are two excellent options, cost is ~$600 plus shipping and labor to install. When I had my '96 RT/10, I put on the Snake-oyl, and the sound was great. I did the same with my '98 GTS when I had it, and the sound was not nearly as good.

This is a great post on swapping them, but just a note, this was done on a header modified car, not a fully stock exhaust system... its slightly different. like 2.5 instead of 3" and you need atleast 24" (preferably 26"ish) pipe instead of 18".
