Anybody care to share their experience with R80 compound (radial slicks) at the roadcourse? Please compare to A6 and R6 tires. Thanks. :headbang:

Slicks are faster than A6 or R6, though the difference isn't what is was 2-3 DOT tire generations ago. Probably more like 1-2 seconds on a typical track instead of 2-3.

R80 is a Hoosier-specific compound specification and is meaningless when comparing between brands. Dunlop, Yokohama, and Michelin also make radial slicks, among others.

2 sec is huge. I witnessed a guy go 1 sec faster at Mid Ohio albeit a different day, changing from A6's to R80 Hoosiers. What do you think about the radials at Miller? Due to the speeds, prob a good 2 sec? Curiously, one of Dodge's pro drivers told me better to use A6's for that 'fast lap'.

A6's will be faster than R6's for something like qualifying, but the autocross-derived A compound is more likely to overheat in an extended lapping session or race. Heavier car, higher ambient temps, shorter straightaways, etc., will make it worse.

Either DOT Hoosier will be slower than a radial slick. I haven't run Miller so I can't really say specifically. Figure 1 second per 60 as a ballpark but there are a lot of variables at play.

We run about 3 laps and pull off (on the A6's). Usually scooping up the slower cars by then anyway, but that might not be the case at Nats, with way fewer classes on the track. I just need to know what will yield the fastest lap...period.

The Dunlop race slicks (not DOT) are the fastest tire I've run on my Vipers. Kinda pricey and don't last very long but very fast.

Likley comparable to other maker's race slicks.

I usually go by treadwear rating to get a basic idea:

Michelin Pilot sports = 220 rating
Michelin Pilot Cups = 80 rating
Hoosier A/R3SO6 = 40 rating
Hoosier Race Slick = 00 rating

Obviously the lower the #, the softer the compound which equals more grip and less tire life.
