Going to get a spare set of half shafts for the car as a "just in case".

So, whats considered a decent price for a used (but in VERY nice condition) set of 02 half shafts?

Also, is there a differance between the different years of shafts? I know date code will be different but????:dunno:

One last question. I remember reading of a place where you could get replacement straps at like $5.00 a set. Did a search but could not find the place. Anyone know?

Thanks!

Robert

I bought a used very good set off of a rolled 04 with low mileage. Paid $750 for the pair. Don't know if that's a good price though.

SRT shafts won't fit on a Gen 2 - CV joints on those right?

The place I get joints and straps from for dirt cheap is shaftmasters dot com. The Spicer part numbers are 5-799X for the joint and 3-70-28X on the strap kits.

Other than the obvious car doesn't go, and nasty crashing noises from the rear, how does one decide when there is an issue? I have a loud click that has developed in the driver's side rear on my 08. :dunno::dunno::dunno:

Tcurtner, I believe the Wizard posted something about a right rear click on 08s. You can do a search. The problem that he's seen on several 08s is a loose 13mm bolt over the right rear tire undet the inner fender apron. Remove tire and screws to rear part of apron. Pull apron back, you should see the bolts above center of tire. Check them to see if they are tight. Mine were although I still have a clicking sound when my top is up on my 08 Vert. I think its the top though.

On a gen 1 or 2, it is pretty apparent! ;)

replace with a better product all together like the HD shafts from unitrax. is just not worth it if you broke a set already. a lot of BAD can come of a busted half shaft at speed.

Primary here was torsion failure of the shaft tube. This shortened the assembly, causing the male splined joint to pull out of the socket. Too much force over too small a spline contact area caused the female end to fracture.

I have bought several from Flea bay. If they are about 70-80 bucks, its a good price. (per shaft)

750 bucks for 2 half shafts????? They better be HD or you got *****.
