I lined up with a new vette today and he wouldn't even look over...not a wave....not a thumbs up...nothing.... just a fat balding dork looking straight ahead. I thought it would be fun to play a bit, but he wouldn't have anything to do with me.

We were in very light traffic and twice I pulled next to him, each time he would accelerate just enough to pace next to a mini van that was in my lane to avoid me.

No point to this thread other than I don't see why mutual car enthusiasts can't at least be friendly

Ok I'm done whining.

I know, Vette guys for some reason must feel inferior or something. You know like he was the big kahuna until the Viper showed up.
I can't understand it either. Hell I owned two Vette's before the Viper.

Funny...I have noticed that about Vette folks as well...Porsche folks seem friendly enough, Vette folks appear to have their heads up their tailpipes.

Same exact problem happened to me last weekend. Was cruising around with some friends, came across a new vette. Younger guy probably 30's. I came up next to him very quickly and he glanced over and noticed a viper, then refused to glance again. It was middle of night and open highway and he was going exactly the speed limit. I revved a few times, and hit it a couple times, trying to get him to give it a go. He continued to look straight.

losers. :)

I have found that generally speaking Vette owners are ok, but Porsche guys are the least friendly. I attribute this to the fact that they paid a lot of money for their cars and they just DISAPPEAR when they are anywhere near a Viper, I mean they might as well be in a Yugo. NO one even sees them. And there are no shortage of Porsche's, especially here on Long Island.

I was home on leave and my cousin owns a Red Vette. Well I jumped in my viper to run to the store one day and out of my house he comes to jump in the vette. Pulls up next to me on my street and i say where ya goin he shrugs and says wherever you are, I say hmm its a good day to eat a vette and you will be the first victim of MANY. So we head down the road and he pulls up next at a red light I said go ahead and take the leave because you'll need the head start, and he hits it so I gave him about a car length and I was off and reelin him in like it was cool then pulled about 6 car lenghts on him before i let off as the onlookers pointed with awe. It was GREAT muahahahaha

Vette guys are not all car guys. Some of them just lease those things as a daily driver. They don't acknowledge you because you are in a different class all together.

Most vette drivers must never "see me" when I'm out cruising, because I wave but most never wave back. Maybe the sheer terror of being a proverbial deer in headlights renders them frozen. haha

Hah I remember chasing down the first Viper I ever saw in my highly modded '80 Vette. If I could have caught him I would have waved LOL

Jim I have worse in the same town - just farther north. Few weeks ago I'm driving to work down Cactus and in front of me I see a red GTS with 8LV10 plates. No traffic so I pull up to give the thumbs up and maybe have a go to start the morning off right. I get beside and he hasn't even seen me - doesn't wave - nada. I move back and forth like a rice boi looking for a go and look over and I swear to you he has his head back on the headrest and is looking at the headliner - I THINK HE WAS SLEEPING! I had to turn so I give up and cross in front of him. FINALLY he sees me and I get a little courtesy toot on the way by. I have seen more than a Viper a month for the last six months and NOTHING. Not a toot, a wave nothing. So I can't even get love from the Viper owners. I won't even mention the bald guy I see in his C5 Z06 at least once a month who has no time for me. Once I had a big 50-ish guy in an SLK55 launch on me with his trophy wife in the car - at least he gave it a go. I think I like the Porsche/AMG guys more than most. And Mustang punks are like UFC fighters - break their nose and they just come back for more. Gotta love that.

nod let alone a wave.

Just now begining to hit the road....believe it or not....no vettes nearby yet!

How do we stand up to the Porsches? Carrera(sp) looking with "turbo" and GT wing above the whale tail? He wants to play, but I am still breaking in the motor...he'll have to wait....

So far, most pickups are trying to try me out ? ?

Most of the Vette crowd around here are pretty cool guys, most will not race at the lights though, I mean, I do not care even if they have a nasty ole blower sticking out the hood, I wonna race it....

Will I race a ricer? yeah if Iam bored and the snake needs a quick snack..

How about the Stangs? SVT Cobras and such, oohh yeah, tough crowd though, when you spank them, they come back in a month or so wanting more after dumping another $10k into there cars at the local Mustang performance shop...

I had the same thing happen on Saturday with a black Ferrari 308 in the bay area. I saw him ahead on I580, caught up to him, wanting so bad to have a go at it, and all I got was a faggy little wave :-(

Ain't it the truth, and that holds true for many of the cars memtioned, they are just.......skeered. HOWEVER, if that Porsche Turbo is all wheel drive do NOT race him from a standing start, with our traction problems he will eat you alive, those things get off the line like they came off a catapult. Race from a roll, equalizes everything.

Maybe so, but what the he||, it's still fun :)

Disclaimer - I in no way support the clubbing of baby seals, only baby Ferraris, Porches, and other cars that cost more than ours and claim to be "performance sports cars" :)

As long as it is not wet, Kumhos are the great equilizer. With my short gears and Kumhos I'll take on any AWDer in the dry.

Some of you must not be seeing to many of the really built up Mustangs. I have not met any yet, but my advise is not to take them to lightly. They look stock because everything fits under the hood but some of them WILL put a serious hurting on a Viper. Believe it or not, there are some cars that are faster than Vipers. Somebody had mentioned sticking 10 large into a Mustang and coming back for more. 10g's into a Mustang will get you over 850rwhp. Don't take this the wrong way like I am "defending" Mustangs but some of you need to realize that they can't be taken lightly.

When I had my Vette, I used to race anyone, anytime. Waved at all sports cars, too. Now that I got a Viper, I won't give just anybody a race, cause there's too many comers, from pick up trucks to ricers to bikes, even some average Joe in a Camry, and they all wanna see how they stack up to the Viper, or just see it go fast. Maybe some sleepers are faster, but who cares? Why should I wear out my car so they can see how they do? I'll save it for better competition, like a turbo Porsche or something like that.

Not this Vette owner, and that IS reality.:D

But true I've met my share of [******] Vette owners over years. It's guys like that ruin it for the rest of us. I just ignore them but sometimes I just point and laugh. LOL

I will say there are azzholes in EVERY car group no matter the make or model.

They are some cool Vette owners out there guys, and not all are old, fat and just wax their cars though many of them are. :2tu:

Well the tables ARE being turned right now as we BS.. Look out DC.- And this is why I just ordered a new zo6. Take a look at the current motor trend AND car and driver magazines. BOTH just tested a STOCK zo6 and raved about it and also reported a 0-60 time of 3.5 and 3.7 with 1/4 mile at 11.2 WOW.. No new Viper coupe will even be in line with those numbers. We will have to add all sorts of bolt ons to compete AND the new zo6 is only $65,000 msrp, $69,500 fully loaded (with a ridiculous GPS). Both magazines quoted " Race super car and Ferrari eater " right out of the box. They also said they would be testing the new Viper coupe next month. Read it and compare and without excuses. Ill keep my GTS but cant wait to compete in my new zo6. Oh, and I will wave back.

0-60 in 3.5 is impressive and the Z06 does it without needing a shift. The SRT-10 needs a shift at 59mph and that is included in its' 3.9 0-60. I'm not sure where you read 11.2 1/4 mile? Maybe it's the same place MT gets their times, by 'adjusting' the numbers for conditions. Yeah, the adjustometer deletes tenths of a second and adds MPH for every couple degrees ambient temp and humidity and altitude and dollars spent advertising by GM.

Road and Crack : 0-60 in 4.2 and 1/4 mile in 12.3 at 119
Automobile says : 0-60 in 4.1 and 1/4 mile in 12.0 at 124
Motor Trend says: 0-60 in 3.5 and 1/4 mile in 11.5 at 127
Chevrolet says : 0-60 in 3.7 and 1/4 mile in 11.7 at 125
..........SRT-10: 0-60 in 3.9 and 1/4 mile in 11.7 at 123

No way the SRT-10 coupe will be near those numbers? Looks in the middle to me.
Ferrari Eater? Maybe the old ones, but an F430 shows 0-60 in 3.5 and the 1/4 in 11.7 @ 120 in Road and Track (Compare to above times)

Sounds like a group of fast cars, not MY CORVETTE IS SUPERIOR IN EVERY WAY on a Viper Club Site. You don't even have it yet.

Two questions: How much are you paying?(Please don't say they are going for MSRP) and when will you get yours?
