Looking at some Blue/White GTS cars and notice the fender badges on the sides and rear are body colored in blue yet others are white, are these white ones painted by an owner at some point?
They come from the factory in only blue, am I correct?
Can they be bought in blue and reapplied without any fear of damage, ie, paint coming off with the white badge,
thanks gang,
Ryan

The white badges are aftermarket. The badges come off fairly easy. Heat them up with a hair dryer and use dental floss to remove. The OE badges can be bought (see JonB at PartsRack).

they came blue from the factory, don't know if there were any exceptions but I was at the plant during the assembly of our GTS in august of 96 and they were all blue.

There were NO factory badging exceptions on any year Viper that I know of! Not even the few D-C exec and one-off cars.... all got badging appropriate to paint code. All 96-7 Blues got Blue. The 3 white 96 GTSs got white.

The parts come in to MACK and CAAP pre-badged from the vendor.

I have sold a BUNCH of Chrome or black emblems...and I had ONE guy with blue 97 GTS, place RED emblems on his car to achive Red-White-Blue. He even swapped the hood medallion to Red.

HOOD MEDALLIONS MAKE A NICE COLOR-CHANGE HIGHLIGHT !

Ryan,

Had mine removed by the dealer and replaced with black ones(from 1999-see avatar). Tried to paint the originals but the paint would not hold correctly in the curves.

Not Quite right, at least one of the early Black cars left with some red Badging. The cars owner was the NY Pres Rich Harrison. The car really stood out at VOI.1 since there were only a half dozen black cars there. How many Vipers were trailered in behind a Little Red Express Truck! I noticed the red badging on the car as Rich was unloading it out of the trailer. Rich confirmed it arrived that way, and that he did not change it. So there was at least one. My guess is it was like the one smoothie hood '98 RT... something that slipped through, or the new parts were just not in yet.

Jay Leno's black 93 has red snakes on the hood and trunk because they didnt have black emblems yet, but I think the lettering is black.

I fitted the chrome look badges, (ordered from JonB). I liked their look with the rest of the shiny bits, wheels, gas cap etc.

So my car has chrome lettering -- this is not stock? Am I understanding correctly? The "Viper GTS" letters are aftermarket installed by the dealer?

In a related question, are the "D-O-D-G-E" letters on the rear bumper just adhesive backed? I'd like to remove them but need advice they are not going to show holes or some other BS.

Thanks,
Eric

No Eric, You have an '01 Sapphire, you have what is supposed to be there. Ryan was referring to a blue/white GTS which were produced in '96 & '97.

And the rear badging is adhesive.

Eric. There are no holes underneath. The hair-dryer + dental floss or fishing line works fine.

I have quite a few customers who remove them and replace w/ the STRIPE color. Looks especially nice on Yellow/Black, Red/Silver, and Black/Silver. Some folks take off DODGE; my European customers remove CHRYSLER and add DODGE !!!!

RIGHT ! Jay Leno got the first Black Viper produced, and those earliset 1993 Blacks indeed had RED emblems, installed at MACK.

I had known about Leno's car, but forgot Rich Harrison's. I even have photos of both somewhere ! Drew Alcazar also had em on his black RT

thanks for the all the replies, I prefer the stock nameplates personally, but as the french say up in these parts
"Chacun Son Gout"- To each his own!!!

If I secure a deal on a white decal car JonB can add those to the first of many shipments, along with Cat-backs, high flow cats, half shafts, where does the fun end!

The chrome badges look great as well, although I see in Nadine's pic it looks as though the rim is not polished at all??
No offence if it is polished, could be the camera angle!?

Starting to make some severe concessions for this car, passed on a 7 day cruise with the boys this sunday, so I can stay home and read archived threads, I'm addicted.....
Til next time,
Ryan

From Rich Harrison:

"........it was a one of one, as per my request.
It was Viper #261 it had red medallions on the hood and trunk, and all other badging was the Viper red/orange (side of hood & rear bumper.......

........Also it was the first Black Viper
for the North East Region, it was delivered March of 93, and Black did not become available until August of 93.

As it turned out it was a Red Viper painted
Black by team Viper, as were all the Black
Vipers delivered before August of 93. Ron
Smith was responsible for this Viper and
the Red/Orange badging. In fact this Viper
per the Chrysler records left the New Mac
plant as incomplete because of the badging.
(not matching the build info)"
