Sorry, couple more questions about Viper days in Dallas next weekend.

What do you think about driving only the Viper? We live 6 hours away and I really don't want to take 2 cars. Worst case-Viper breaks or wrecks; does this happen often?

Why a long sleeve shirt?

I have new o/e pads. Will these last for two days/two people driving and still make it back home (safely)?

About what time does the last intermediate group run? One of us will drive in the rookie group and one in the intermediate group- we will probably have to leave after the last of our runs (got to pick up the kid and both work the next day).

I want to take some pictures-any ideas on film speed?

Are there any decent places to eat near by? We're not into fast food and I think I will need a beer (or 4) afterwards.

Any idea how many Vipers will be there?

See ya'll at the track!!

Not stupid questions at all...I had lots of questions before my first event earlier this year too.
1.Drive the Viper down if you wish; many people will. If something does break I can't think of a better place. Unlike other driver education/track events; Viper Days enjoys tremendous support. Bobby Archer Motorsports and Archer Racing will both be there to do service, replacement and repairs.
2.Wrecks VERY unlikely. First MSR is pretty safe with lots of run-off room if needed and second until you're signed off as safe and competent you'll have a super instructor with you. They'll bring you along at your own pace.
3.Check the pads before after each run; if needed you can replace.
4. The event will be probaly be over at 5 with awards at 5:30 Don't know about each group though.
5. ASA 400 usally works great.
6. Quiznos will be catering each day. Plenty of restuarants in Benbrook (towards Ft Worth) or Granbury each is about 20 mins away
7. Don't know how many are signed up.
Feel free to drop by and say hi! I'll have a Silver GTS # 42.
Cheers,
Jim

Buy pads in advance..........You WILL need them soon anyway if not right away. Much cheaper in advance. Brakeman #2's are good choice. $200.00 per axle at the track or about $150.00 from other vendor.
But it really depends on your driving style. I personally go through 1 and 1/2 sets of front pads every Viper Day event, but I'm what you would call alittle agressive (two 3rd's in Super Stock in two events).
Also, and this is important, change your brake and clutch fluid if it's the slightest bit dirty. Two reasons: 1. Safety & 2. You won't pass safety with dirty fluid. Modul 600 is an excellent choice.

Eating is all part of the excitement at Viper Days. Fri night snacks and drinks, always good. Sat. lunch at the track, then Sat. night banquet. Then lunch at the track again Sun. If you went with the full meal deal package.

Film? I'm not a photo nut, can't help.

I believe the long sleave is for safety reasons (fire?), I think it buys you alittle time in case of fire.

Usually there is 60 to 80 Snakes around "Awesome".

The intermediate group usually finishes before the rookie group. But it doesn't matter because you'll want hang around to pick up your trophy anyhow;)

My 1st Viper Days at Mid America this spring, I drove 645 miles one way and then home again.

You won't wreck if you listen to the instructors and start into it going easy.

Oh and if you have more questions contact Courtney she's a real sweetheart [email protected]

One last thing, be prepared to get hooked!!!!!!!!!!

Bill and DeeDee,
Don't worry about a thing. Drive your car, you'll have no problems. Don't worry about brake pads unless you are seriously concerned about saving .50. If you do get your pads changed, you may also want to get your fluid flushed, as old brake fluid is one of your worst enemies on the track. Personally, I'd let the Archers take care of your car rather than having to predict what you'll need in advance. There is no food package at this particular event as Skip is trying to make this one as inexpensive as possible for the Texas folks. That means you'll be buying subs at the track on Sat. and Sunday and dinner with the rest of the gang on Saturday night. You'll be able to drive in two run groups without inconvenience. And don't worry about being over your heads. That is the beauty of Viper Days, you run with people of your own level. I hope you both stop by to say hi. I'm a red CC #98. You'll find me at the Archer Accessories paddock area.

400 film is a good all around film, the Fuji 800 speed is really good also. It will work for sunny or cloudy days. I like the Fuji film as it seems to have better color for race cars.
If you go to the one in November I plan on going there and shooting some pictures. I shoot everything digital so I don't buy film anymore. It's really cool, I think I shot 2 or 3 thousand frames last weekend at the Winston Cup race weekend at Kansas Speedway. I had my favorite 800 or so pictures printed at Costco for around $160.

Bill & Dee Dee-

Everyones first Viper Days event can be a bit nerve racking but once you get there and see what we are all about your worries will fly right out the passengers window!!

Everyone else has answered your questions quite right. You need a long sleeve shirt for safety reasons, if you have a problem with the car Bobby Archer Motorsports & Archer Racing accessories will be there to help you in any way possible. Just check your pads after each session and you may have to change them at the track or have one of our vendors check it out for you. There are a bunch of restaurants approx 20 minutes north of the track but don't forget that we will be having Quiznos at the track for lunches and the Sat pm dinner will be at Bobby Archers shop with lots of fun activities planned for the evening. Thank you to Bobby for hosting such a wonderful party!! At this point we have approx 45 Vipers signed up. It will be a fun and exciting weekend and the weather looks good.

If you have additional questions please feel free to call Courtney at 847-594-8477 and ask for Courtney!

See you at the track!

Hi Bill, I drove my Viper from Portland to the Thunderhill Viper Days which is about 550 miles and everything worked out fine. I did flat spot a tire, but thanks to the onsite support provided by Archer Racing, I was able to buy a new one at the track. My only hassle was an early March snowstorm I had to drive through over the pass at Mt Shasta in order to get home.
