When filling the A/C, do you use the high side or low side?

What color cap is it by the dyer? Blue or the black one?

Thanks in advance.

For the A/C idiot (that would be me), what do you do, exactly? Get some R-134... get some compressor oil... put them both in a funnel... and pour them in?

I hope it is that easy. But I am guessing it isn't.

I'm about to have to do the same thing...

At Pepboys they sell the Freon in a can with a guage. It will tell you when it is full. it cost about $20 and is easy to do. It will only fit on one of the valves.

Make sure the engine is running and the A/C is on when you do it.

I have two cans of r134a and they both have different valves that fit on both fittings. I don't want to blow another hose off or cause a potential fire with the oil going all over the place.

About three weeks ago I recharged the AC system on my 94. They now make a can of stop leak in 134 to add to the system along with oil and freon. So far I haven't had any leak down what so ever, and the system is really blowing cold air. When using a guage system from one of the auto parts places, keep adding freon until it reaches the light blue area of the guage. When you look thru the window on the top of the dryer it should be clear. Good luck and stay Cooooool.

I looked in the viper manual and it says the smaller is the low side and the larger is the high side. Now I am being told that the larger is low side and the higher is the smaller tubing?

still confused. The blue cap is what? and the balck cap is what?

You can't go by the fitting on the can. because they have cans that fit both sides!

High side and low side= discharge side and suction side

The compressor high side runs HOT and is the smaller line

The compressor suction side is the larger tubing and gets cold and sweats..condensates.

You charge ONLY on the LOW ...SIDE

Low side suction press runs approx. 25-35 psi..

High side pressure runs 175 to 275 psi...

Charge untill the site glass on the top of the reciever drier is CLEAR...NO bubbles.

Also rev the engine to approx. 1500- 2000 rpms while charging, for a more accurate charge.

Never charge into the high side...Years ago (freon -12 days) before the change to smaller and larger size schraeder fittings (r-134a) ...guys had made the mistake of charging into the high side ...and had the freon can EXPLODE in their hands...OUCH!!!
