Finally Opened up the GTS and here\'s what i found

After owning my GTS for exactly one year and logging 1100 pampered miles (before i get flogged...I do have other toys that i use frequently) for a total of 1500 miles on the OD i finally decided to put the pedal to the metal.
I made a U turn, waited for the car to straighten out rolling at about 20 mph and nailed it in a "smooth fashion". The car took off and as the RPM's went up the back tires started losing traction, i shifted to second but the tires kept spinning. It squirreled quite a bit, but never lost control as i do have driving experience with high powered rear drive vehicles, but this car scared me like no other. The power onset is vicious , at the same time i was able to get control of the car rather easily.
It is true what they say..you can't just get in this car and drive it. You have to learn how to drive it...and never, never let anyone else drive it.

Final impression: It scared the s*** out of me.
And they say it gets faster with mileage?

Hello Snakebolt,

As Joe says it's Viper Blue w/ stone white stipes.

Many people in the street have described it as you did.

After one year of ownership the only things that have gone wrong are: 1. one of the wiper motors (probably from lack of use)
2. occasionally the horn would not work-found it was not grounding all the time. Quick fix and so far so good.
3. the hood was rubbing slightly on the headlights. i wound up raising it for now and have a larger than normal gap, until i figure out how to lower the headlights.
4. the little rubber piece by the drivers window unglued.

Those are all the negatives.
As far as the positives the list is looooong.

Best car i have ever owned. Seriously.

Robiferreti,
I was not at the beach yesterday. Wish i had been.

Marteeni,

The GTS is stock the zr1 has mods. If both cars were stock the zr1 would be no match for the GTS except in the braking category.

But as both cars are set up, the Z is a bit quicker until it hits 4th gear (about 120 with stock 3:45 gears at 7,000 rpm). After that the Z walks away at a nice pace.
I know the viper handles much better than the Z but at this point i feel more comfortable going in and out of "cones" at high speed with the Z than with the Viper. I attribute this to the fact that i logged 84,000 miles on the z and less than 2,000 on the gts. Also the z is lowered to the point that i can't fit one finger between the hood and the top of the wheel.

Back to the braking. I can hit the brakes on the z at any speed as hard as i can and they never lock up. even in the turns.
Not so in the GTS. i locked up the left wheel in a left turn at about 65mph. Scary. But now the new vipers have antilock brakes.

All in all i prefer the viper hands down. I'll just have to go back and relearn how to modulate the brakes so they don't lock up, like we used to do before we had antilock brakes.

Hi Neil,
It's about time you got enough miles on your baby!
Tie your shoe laces tight and go play!
