Fuel Delivery

I need some help with the fuel delivery for my 98 GTS. I am using a Roe SC with some very intense internal mods. Debating between a external fuel system vs the Walboro 255. I have the 255 and need to know how to make the pick up work. Also want to run #8 feed and # 6 return with an external regulator. would appreciate some sugestions. Thanks Jeff

Probably more than one way, however, you need a material like neoprene that is inert in gasoline. The outer diameter would keep it centered in the bottle. The height would physically put a load on the pump with the bottle closed. The center thru-hole in the new neoprene spacer would be fly cut so that the output side of the pump would be drop into the partial recess, thus, keeping it locked into the center of the bottle.

That is one way, I would like to hear about another method.

My suggestion is to call either Larry Macedo or Vipermed (Scott); both have a good bit of experience with Roe blown heavily modded (heads, cam in Larry's case and heads, cam, stroker in Scott's) cars.

The walbro 255 is fine for up to 300HP over stock in drag race style bursts. I ran it with an NX kit for a long time. For permanent fixing of the fuel issue though I would suggest the following.

Grant or Aeromotive 1000HP pump
Aftermarket fuel rails with top feed injectors
Full return system plumped into factory tank top
Keep factory pump (or 255) in place to feed the big pump
Grant or Aeromotive regulator
Large fuel filter canister mounted on frame in front of pump


This system would net you total control over the fuel delivery and you would not out-grow it.
Just be sure to use a 100 micron filter (not a 10 micron that they come with)

I will be using a complete Aeromotive set-up. I had a baffled sump put into the back of a custom aluminum fuel cell. This way you do not need the in-tank pump to feed the larger in-line pump. A Aeromotive kick-down box (pump controller) will handle keeping the pressure down at low RPM. The pump controller also keeps the stock computer from interfering with the fuel pressure. There pro regulator works great for fuel return, but is also designed to work with boost.

We started our TT viper this weekend for the first time with a full Aeromotive 1000hp fuel system, custom fuel rails with top feeds,
and it seems to be OK. One thing I don't like about it is the pump is VERY loud. When we purged the system it was
amazing to see how much flow that pump is capable of, it made my garden hose look small.

Based on what we have seen so far, this pump is overkill for 1000hp, but will let you know as we start tuning...

Thanks for all the help. I decieded to go with 2 external Bosch pumps with #8 feed line and a #6 return line. We are going to use the stock pump ONLY to fill the plastic can inside the tank. I am bypassint the stock regulator with a BBK regulator that will be under the hood. We are running the engine on the dyno at Arrow Racing Engines today or Thursday. Hoping to see 800+HP will let you know how we do.

Davem, did you use the Aeromotive pump controller? This will keep the pump flow and noise down at low RPM. When you are on the throttle it will increase flow but will never be herd over the exhaust noise. They also recommend the pump to pull fuel from a sump at the bottom of the tank. Maybe the stock (top mounted) pick-up is making the pump work harder. That is why I made a custom tank out of aluminum with -12 AN bungs coming from a bottom mounted sump.

The web sight for Aeromotive is www.aeromotiveinc.com or it is sold through Summit and Jegs. You can see all the different products through the web sight, but it will be cheaper to buy from any of the Aeromotive retailers. There is not a specific "Viper" fuel kit. They do have high volume/pressure pumps, regulators and pump controllers. If you call the tech line listed in the web sight, they will recommend the right size components for you needs (very helpful). I went with the Eliminator Pump, Pro Series Filter, Pro Series Regulator and Pump Controller. It would be better to run pick-up bungs out of the bottom back of your fuel tank. Most of the pumps use -10 or -12 inlet lines and returns.

Thanks for the Info... We got the fuel close with the help of Larry Macedo, Sean Roe and Scott from Vipermed. 729.5 HP 734 ft lbs of torque....Still working on it

What did you end up using in the fuel set-up? Did you go with a external (inline) pump? What size injectors did you use?

We went with 2 Bosch external pumps # 8 feed line and # 6 return line We used the stock in line pump ONLY to feed the canister. Regulated the pressure under the hood to 60psi. The 2 bosch pumps will flow 400 GPH which gives me room to make more power. We have Roe 50 LB injectors. Hope this answers your question
