Hi, about 3 months ago I invited anyone around Gainesville to a photoshoot. I got a few interested but no one took me up on it.

I have some demo shots now, which should give at least some more credibility.

My intentions are to do a few more free shoots, to get a portfolio to go to car shows and offer photoshoots to car owners or magazines. So there'd be no charge except your time, and the time to clean the car up.

The burnouts I neither encourage or discourage. If you want them, Ill show you some good spots away from traffic. If you dont want them, thats more than understandable, as I dont want to waste my tires either!

Also I figured that Ill go ahead and ask if anyone else does this stuff, and what do they charge? I was thinking $250 for a shoot, with a 16x20 printed at a professional lab.

Quick question about the second shot of the Lightning. Did you take two photo's, one with the hood up and one with it down and then layered the engine on?

yes, one up, one down, then dropped the opacity and erased as needed. I'd love to get a chance to do this with a viper

the vipers are on this site :D

Seriously, this is why I want to do the photoshoots for free. I need a portfolio so I can approach people. Basically I'm an 18 year old high school/college student (dual enrollment) and trying to start a side job of my own, to pay for my photography equiptment and to have a good time while doing it.

Right now I do weddings as an assistant/2nd shooter every weekend, and get about $150 for a day. It pays well for the area, plus its working with the best photographer in the area, so I learn a lot, which is really more important than the money right now.

At 15 I started working at a professional printing lab, worked hard to learn amd ended up as the SR technician. Then I got a job with UF's engineering publications. Not striking it rich, but I've met tons of cool people, and had fun with every job I've had, so I consider that a plus. Plus it pays for this

Anyways, through the jobs mentioned above I think I've gained enough photography experiance to start going out on my own.

However, every 18 year old wants to be around fast cars, so without a solid portfolio I dont see myself getting very far with clients. I look like just the average slacking obnoxious teenager. I realize people dont want to wash/wax a car just for some kid who might not get a good shot of thier car. So I started with friends who dont have the greatest cars, untill now, when I really think I'm getting close to magazine specials. I can honestly say that I dont come back from a photoshoot without a poster quality image of a burnout, rolling shot, and hood cutaway. Now, I just need to make sure that OTHERS have that same confidence, and this (a few free shoots) is the only way I see it happening.

Which, by the way if anyone has suggestions on fees and how to approach car enthusiasts at shows or magazines, I would greatly appreciate it.

If you were ever in tampa, I can think of 3 vipers real fast, also a nice place for a shot is near a local bridge with rocks and bay in the background.

As far as approaching at shows, you really need to co-oridnate ahead with the show organizer. Have a pre-arranged price. And if it is an outside show, the car just drives to an area, and you do the shoot. Don't know how they get the prints so fast, unless they run down to 1 hour photo, but they get the prints that day.
