The only "flaw" I ever felt our '94 had was that fuzzy rubberized gray dash paint. If you rubbed or bumped it, the paint would smear or nick and it was there forever. The other odd thing was that the gray on the dash didn't match the gray on the center console and door panels. So, long story short, I changed the dash, center console trim and door panels to black.

Thanks.
Here's a couple more before and after pics.
I've "thought" about changing the gray to yellow, but the gray looks good.

Did you use a flat (matte) non-reflective black. If so, can you provide specifics (i.e. manufacturer, part number, source, price, etc.)?

The flat black dash in my car was replaced under warranty. The replacement reflects an absurd amount of glare which must be corrected.

Thanks .....

Hi Joe,

Not a repaint. All new parts. Ordered everything for a '96 RT/10.
Going to put the original dash on e-bay in the next day or so.

Sean-

That looks great! That's what I am doing with my dash except I was going to paint it. How much did that cost? Is the material black slick plastic? And can you get another one?

Looks great Sean.

I've never seen those fuzzy dashes you Gen oners complain about. They must really look terrible 'cause every Gen I I know does something about them. Nice to know that the parts were interchangeable. Sure wish I could put your 94 steering wheel on my 98.

Matt,
All 4 panels cost about $440 with tax from my local dealer. I can give you the part #'s if you need them.

Chuck,
You're lucky to not have a fuzzy dash. I couldn't take it anymore.

Anthony,
We "may" have the gray dyed yellow. If I remove the panels and take them in to the shop near me, it will be about $100. still up in the air about it.

For me, exchanging all the fuzzy panels was the way to go. I didn't want to remove all the panels and drive the car without them while I stripped and painted them. This way, it was just a 30 minute job. I'm selling the original dash for about half the cost to someone who's going to have it color matched to their car. Then, it's a fast job for them too and they keep their original dash intact.

A agree, looks GREAT.

I purchased black dash panals for my project RT as well..... but after much consideration, decided to paint the grey dash the same light pewter metallic that I'm using on the car. To make this work OK, the top of the top of the dash needs to be painted a matt black to avoid reflections on the windshield.

The black dash is a great thing to do to dress up an early RT. Maurice Liang, one of the VCA's co-founders, did this to his '93 as soon as the black dashes became available. A word of caution, the paint on the black dashes is still pretty delicate, although it may not look like it, it is still "soft-touch" paint.

That is what I did to mine also a while back and also have the carbon fiber dash kit on it that makes it look really nice now.
I like the seat combo too....

Thanks again Sean. Here is your old dash back from the painter. It looks great in person. Now I'm waiting for a little warmer day and some free time to install. More pictures when I'm done.

Looks great Sean, but I want to know who or how I can get mine red like the dash in AndyR's reply, and how much does a job like that cost. Love that red!!!! My glove compartment is scratched and cut from fingernails. I kinda want something that will eleminate this problem and look as good as one of the dashes above. Love the black and yellow seats Sean!

Andy,

Please post more pics once you have installed the dash. I'd like to see what it's like "in car".

Since this topic got bumped back up, I've been getting e-mails asking for part numbers. Here are all the panels you'll need (in black satin paint). This is a copy of the invoice from my local dealer. I suggest that if your local dealer won't give you these prices or close to it, that you contact Chuck Tator / Tator's Dodge in NY for a good deal. If it's an out of state sale, you'll save the tax $ too. I sold my original dash to Andy (looks good in red) for $200. So, my upgrade and his both worked out pretty well and saved each of us some money.

The dash isn't very hard to take out at all! I just did it last night and it's just about taking out screws. I even took out my gas gauge and voltage gauge. I will have pics when I'm done to help anybody else. The hardest thing about the whole thing was figuring out how to get the headlight knob off to get the dash out. There's a button you've got to push down to pull out the knob. And it's under the console on the top of the headlight hardware. I've yet to put the new console in as Chuck Tator just sent it out. Pics and info to follow as soon as completed!

I did it. It's easy. All the panels for it cost about $350 total from John B. A big improvement for the money. The black looks better than the gray on my black car. I sold all the old dash parts on ebay for about half what I paid for the new parts. I just got a "new" stock steering wheel to replace my worn old one.
Improve, spend, replace, fix, spend, someday I'll run out of things to buy, right?
