Geeky Torque Wrench Question

Viperholics,

I just installed new plugs in my 98' GTS, and Torque to 20 Ft. Lbs., if memory serves. Here's my question: Being you have to use an extension with the torque wrench, does this affect a true reading? In layman's, can a torque wrench be accurate with an extension?

Should be no difference if the extension is between the socket and the ratchet of the torque wrench (i.e. the extension is not between the ratchet end and the handle of the torque wrench.)
