Many Viper owners have owned their Vipers longer than any car they have ever owned. So they tend overlook things. As pristine Gen-1 cars age, stuff is starting to fail. Weak-links in G-1 cars are:

head gaskets.
Plug Wires.
P/S lines and pumps.
Timing chain cover gaskets.
Rock-hard XGT-Zs

At a VCA event this weekend, yet another P/S line burst on an otherwise NICE 1994 RT/10. Ruined their day, spraying fluid atop the motor, etc. We 'baffled' the burst line to prevent more spray on the headers, and sent em home carefully, with an extra bottle of fluid.

This car is DRIVING TO VOI from Oregon ! Glad it happened now.

The line is under $50.

Lesson: Despite a beautifully maintained car, AGE and HEAT and the fact that his car (lifetime) has had 6-7 track events, have placed a toll on all rubber parts.

If your G-1 car has some serious miles and/or track events on it, Before taking that long jaunt to VOI, or your next track event, it would be a good idea to replace Hoses, Serpentine, P/S pressure lines, maybe Oil Cooler lines, wires, and KEEP THE GOOD TAKE-OFFS as future spares.

And NO, this is not a plea for a couple hundred $$ of parts business...just a word to the wise as a result of a ruined day of a VCA friend...... Routine Maintenance on a VIPER is not routine. You gotta do more than change oil every 2500-3000 miles and keep it Zainoed!

Gen-2....... you could be 6+ years old! Old, hot rubber fails.
