Gen I and Gen II have radio and control knobs opposite of eachother?

Anybody notice that on a Gen I the radio is on the bottom and the knobs are above it, but on a Gen II the radio is above the control knobs?
Why?

Yes, I have noticed. I think it may have something to do with the heat. My radio is on top, but it gets pretty darn hot after I run for awhile. I am taking it apart soon to put a heat shield under my radio. It has gotten so hot at times that my CD player doesn't work and flashes some overheat message. I take the CD out and it is very hot to the touch. My guess is Dodge moved the radio higher up to lessen the heat, but even so my Gen 2 GTS still has a hot radio.
