Okay stupid question: probably been answered a dozen times.
Why do the Gen II's make so much more power than the Gen I? and are there any basic changes that can be done to the Gen I to equal the BHP of Gen II.

In stock form there is a difference in the cam profile and head design to explain the 50 BHP difference.

However, for modified motors, no tuner here seems to want to touch this question with a ten foot pole. I've asked several times why a Gen1 and Gen2 motor both with a cam change and head work (or Mopar Race Heads) won't have the same HP output and noone can/will answer it.

I think you're stuck with an answer of, "A Gen1 engine will always make about 20-30 RWHP less than a similarly modified Gen2 engine"

I don't understand why, but that seems like the way it is.
