I'm working on upgrading the factory sound system. I wanted to start with the speakers.

After reading that my 96' RT/10 would accept 6.5s speakers and ordering them, I found out after tearing the door panels apart for installation that it's not the case, 5.25's only

I know I could hack up the door and make them fit, but I'd rather not.

Part of my plan for upgrading the stock system was to use 2ohm speakers, as I could squeeze more power out of the factory Alpine amps. I wanted to share with everyone that I found the Alpine data sheet for these factory amps (unbelievable considering the amps are 10+ years old!).

For anyone who's interested here's the factory data sheet in a pdf, note this is is a direct hit for the amps in my 96' RT/10, it's possible they used different amps in the earlier cars:

If for some reason it asks you to sign in, follow their process, and click thru to their amp tech data sheets, and select model #3513.

The amp is identical, except the Viper amp has the addition of an INPUT MODE switch.

I was happy to see that the Alpine unit is 2ohm capable, so I'll see how it sounds once I get the proper sized 2ohm speakers. If the sound *****, then I guess time to swap the head and/or factory amps. If it doesn't ****, then it's time to install the Alpine MP3 cd changer :headbang:

I changed the 2 rear center speakers in my 96 RT, and went with 2 way speakers to put full range sound near your ear(s). Changed the head unit, kept the stock door speakers, and the stock amps. The BIG improvement in sound was the head unit. :2tu: :2tu:
